Conversations with Kayleigh Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayleigh Clark.

Hi Kayleigh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a family full of musicians. My mom and dad grew up singing, my uncle played in a band, and my grandmother played piano for her church. My dad has struggled with addiction his whole adult life, so I used music as an outlet. I have been singing my whole life. When I was 3 I sang in church for the first time and wouldn’t get off the stage after that. My mom says when I was young, I was constantly doing music. Whether it was tapping, singing, humming, whistling, I was making music. She told me I needed to be quiet and I told her I had a song in my heart! Needless to say she didn’t tell me to stop after that hahaha

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. I drove for a year every few weeks to be in Nashville and get my foot in the door with so many talented artists and musicians. Traveling alone was scary and lonely at times but it’s totally worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been singing for as long as I can remember, but didn’t start writing until 2 or so years ago! It’s something I definitely had to practice and get better at, but I use it as a platform to tell my testimony. I hope with the songs I write, that someone hears it and knows that they aren’t alone, and have someone to relate to. My dad is a cattle and chicken farmer so I always stay true to my country roots when writing and preforming! I am most proud of my strength. Going on a tv show like The Voice, you have to be strong, and okay with the hate and backlash that comes with being in the spotlight. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my whole experience!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I always say, be 100% your authentic self. People can catch on pretty quick when you are genuine. I want to build a fan base of people who see and enjoy watching the REAL me! I would also say, you will have haters. You absolutely cannot please anyone. Focus on pleasing yourself first, and that will take you a long way! Let the hateful comments roll off your back!
