Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Garcia.
Hi Kelly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Well, my story begins and ends with music. I’ve been in love with music since I was 4 years old. Around 9 years old my sister and brother introduced me to Guns N Roses and that begin my Rock N Roll journeys. Met my first band Kiss when I was 12. Many concerts later, I still was curious about the new bands that no one has heard of. So I started sneaking into bars to see local and traveling underground bands. The underground music scene had me sold. Fast forward to 19 had my first son and life got a little different.
My Rock N Roll dreams of moving to California took a big nose dive but I sure did love that baby boy. Five years later I ended up getting married and having my second son. 4 years later my third son came along. 3 years a daughter came along. My marriage was a horrible nightmare, my ex-husband was very abusive. I had no friends and I was out of touch with music. My oldest son became my best friend. He showed me new music I showed him old music. He learned and mastered every instrument during that marriage. When I finally got the strength to leave, between working and supporting 4 kids my son was having band practice in my living room. It was great! When then started hosting house shows at our home. We had bands from all around playing.
I felt alive I was able to reconnect with the music. Fast forward some more my son was playing shows from Clarksville to Nashville to Kentucky, I was at every show I could make. Then he said he was gonna take a break to record his first ep. I was lost what was I gonna do? I was used to being at his shows. So then I thought we’ll why don’t I start a YouTube channel and interview the underground scene of all the bands and get their music out there? So Kool Kelly’s Corner was born and was a hit. I migrated to Nashville and the scene took me in with open arms. Still thriving for more, I started working with a Nashville metal band Hidden Sixes.
I still wanted to do more in the music scene. I decided to embark on doing music festival documentaries. The first music festival that I wanted to start this journey on was MuddyRoots Music Festival in Cookeville TN. While telling Nathan Ells the vocalist of Hidden Sixes, he decided that he wanted to help me, so Kool Police Productions was born. I was excited that he wanted in on this. He is one of the greatest vocalists I’ve ever heard and he has taught me so many things about the music industry the good the bad and the ugly. He has seen it all. Nathan was the former vocalist of a metalcore band called The Human Abstract, he toured the world two times over and played 2 vans warped tour music festivals.
We started our MuddyRoots Music Festival last year and we are hoping to continue it this year as well. I also have started my own band called Krypnotic Khaos. I’m hoping to get the songs I wrote about my abusive marriage out there and maybe it will help someone understand that there is life after being abused. I’m also enrolled at Full Sail University getting my bachelor’s degree in the music business. I’m living proof! You are never too old to follow your dreams or to Rock N Roll.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a bad road at all. As long as you have the will and the drive you can do anything. My love for music keeps it all alive for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I do a lot of things in the music world. I book shows when I can. I do underground band interviews. I also have gotten to interview some big-name bands as well. I also do music festival documentaries. I’m an inspiring musician as well with my own band Krypnotic Khaos. I’m most proud of doing the music festival documentary this past year at MuddyRoots Music Festival.
It was a dream come true for me. Also, it was a dream come true for my son Dom and his band Ritual Caster cause they got to play at MuddyRoots as well. What I think sets me apart from others is that my heart is true to the music.
My determination and dedication are as real as it gets. People respect that I’m doing this all from my heart and for the love of music.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The Clarksville Music Scene is where it all begins. Thank you Cody Parson for letting me in and believing in me. The Nashville music scene for taking me in and giving me a home. Special thanks to Monica Young and Corey Tucker for introducing me to new people in the scene. Also Music City Metal podcast Larry and Mary Fish for letting me be part of their Metal family. Everyone was one of the bands that let me do interviews with them. MuddyRoots Music Festival for letting me do the documentary.
My kids for believing in me. My oldest son Dom has been my inspiration on this whole journey. Last but not least I can’t say thank you enough to Nathan Ells. He has been my mentor, my support, and my biggest critic as well. He tells me the truth good or bad. He has helped me better myself and has taught me so much. He showed me that you can follow your dreams no matter what age.
If it wasn’t for his Rock and Roll spirit I would have not come this far. Also thank you to my dad for loving me no matter what. One more thank you to my favorite Nashville band Howling Giant for their life-changing live shows. The Wizard Lives.
