Conversations with Kelsey Fritz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Fritz.

Kelsey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into wedding photography began with a deep love for storytelling. I studied fine art photography, where I learned to see the world through light, emotion, and composition—but more importantly, I discovered how powerful photographs can be in preserving people, culture, and connection.

While in school, I found myself most drawn to photographing people and the stories they carry. That curiosity naturally led me into senior and lifestyle photography, where I could capture authentic moments and meaningful transitions in people’s lives. Around the same time, my love for travel was shaping who I was as an artist. I backpacked through Europe and Russia during college, immersing myself in different cultures and learning how universal human connection truly is. Those experiences taught me to observe quietly, adapt quickly, and document life as it unfolds—skills that would later become essential in my wedding work.

My path into wedding photography happened organically. A friend invited me to assist her at a wedding, and from the moment I stepped into that day, everything clicked. Weddings brought together everything I loved: storytelling, emotion, culture, and fleeting moments that deserve to be remembered. I knew immediately that this was where my heart belonged.

Since 2018, I’ve been working as a traveling destination wedding photographer, documenting love stories across locations and cultures. Whether close to home or across the world, I approach each wedding with the same intention—to tell the story honestly, artfully, and with deep respect for the people and traditions that make each celebration unique while building a relationship with my clients that will last a lifetime.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was building my business during a season of constant change in my personal life. As my now-husband’s job required us to move frequently across the country, I found myself repeatedly starting over—rebuilding my business, reestablishing vendor relationships, and creating new communities in each place we lived.

Each move meant letting go of familiarity and learning how to adapt quickly, often while continuing to travel for weddings I had already booked. It was challenging to feel grounded or secure in long-term relationships with vendors and clients when I never knew how long I would be in one location.

Over time, that uncertainty pushed me to refine my brand and lean into destination and travel-based work. Instead of being tied to one place, I began promoting myself more intentionally as a traveling wedding photographer. What initially felt like an obstacle ultimately shaped the direction of my business, allowing me to build a career rooted in flexibility, trust, and photographing weddings wherever the story takes me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Fine art true-to-tone wedding photographer specializing in destination and travel-based celebrations, with a strong focus on storytelling, culture, and genuine connection. My work blends a fine art perspective with an honest, documentary approach—allowing moments to unfold naturally while still creating elevated, timeless imagery.

A huge part of my process is building real relationships with my couples. I never want to feel like just another vendor on a wedding day. From the planning process to the wedding itself, my goal is to be someone my couples trust—someone who helps ease worries, offers support, and ultimately feels more like a friend than a hired photographer. On the wedding day, I want to feel like family.

I’m known for capturing weddings in a way that feels beautiful yet effortless, without making the day about the photos alone. I believe the best images come from couples being fully present—laughing, celebrating, and partying with their favorite people—while I document it all thoughtfully in the background.

What I’m most proud of is building a career rooted in trust, adaptability, and meaningful connection across different locations and cultures. What sets me apart is my ability to create a calm, comfortable environment, especially in destination settings, so couples can truly enjoy their day knowing their story is being captured with care.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is going to Edisto Beach with my parents and two older sisters on a “lighthouse hunt.” We spent the day driving around looking for them like it was a treasure hunt. I even have a photo of us in front of one—and now it hangs in my baby’s nursery. I love that a little piece of that adventure is still part of my family story.
