Conversations with Kimberly Jimenez Quintanilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Jimenez Quintanilla

Hi Kimberly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Flow Mafia Entertainment was created in May of 2021 by Dani Heileman, Paulo Ventura, and myself. It started as a way to emulate the atmosphere of nightlife events we had experienced together and individually. We saw the value in performance art at live music shows and we wanted to bring that energy to Nashville in our own way!
We are grateful to our family at United Perception, The Golden Door, Barcater Nashville, and Full Circle, among many others, for seeing the value in us and providing a space for performing artists to shine. It really takes a village to get to the point we are at today. Those who have supported us from the very beginning know who they are and they know how deeply grateful we are to them for believing in us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Event production is already expensive as it is, and it’s difficult for some production companies to find a budget for performers. It really pushes you to learn the art of negotiation and establishing your worth.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a shuffle and GoGo dancer. Shuffling is the style of dance that got my foot through the door of the performance arts and entertainment world. The first time I performed on a stage was for the Nashville Circus Center’s Wizarding World of Circus show, and it was a very wholesome experience. I feel like my flow journey has led me to an immense amount of self-discovery and healing.
It’s also, truly, such a blast working in the entertainment industry. I am fortunate to have been a performer for insanely cool productions like Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, the Mount Westmore Tour featuring Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, Ice Cube, and E-40, and of course, Deep Tropics Music & Arts Festival. I love being a part of the event production magic; the joy it brings to others is so special and fulfilling.
Aside from the performance aspect of this job, the best part has been connecting with so many incredibly talented and passionate artists. Through Flow Mafia Entertainment, I am able to offer performance opportunities to many independent artists, and provide a platform for them to showcase their talent and create fun and unique experiences for others. Building community, creating opportunities, and expressing authentically is what it’s all about.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In my opinion, every decision we make in life is a risk. Each risk we take will either have a positive outcome or a negative outcome. I always try to consider the best versus worst case scenario, and then decide if it’s a risk I am willing to take.
If I had chosen a more conventional line of work, I would have risked not living out my dreams and owning my dream business. Honestly, who knows where I would be if I had not chosen this path, but I don’t regret it for one second.
