Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Levine.
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I think you could start my story with the birth of my first child in 2017, and the way that becoming a mother not only transformed me as a person but also completely rearranged my career goals. Up to that point, I had been working as a professional musician for most of my life and assumed I’d get right back to it after having a baby, but when my son was born, I just couldn’t imagine going back to touring, late nights, and the stress of the music industry in general. Instead, I became more and more interested in connecting with other moms and deepening my knowledge of all things babies and postpartum.
Over the next couple of years, I completed 3 intensive courses and became certified as a postpartum doula, a lactation educator, and a baby-led sleep & wellbeing specialist. I officially launched my business, Wellmama, in the summer of 2020. The name was chosen because I believe very sincerely that when mamas are well, their babies are well. And when the babies are well, they go on to become good humans who better their communities and our planet. So really, it all comes back to mamas.
I work very closely with mothers to help them reach their breastfeeding goals and understand biologically normal infant and toddler sleep, empowering them through their attachment bond with their babies. I’ve just welcome my second child, a baby girl, and am amazed by how much easier early motherhood has felt this time around with the base of knowledge that I feel so lucky to have acquired these last several years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As anyone with small children knows, trying to find 5 minutes to take a shower can be a challenge! So making time the to complete 3 very time-consuming courses plus the required casework and field hours, some of which fell during the height of the pandemic, was very challenging at times. However, going through the experience of starting a business during lockdown did give me the chance to really reflect on what I wanted to do, and then refine that vision. It was also an incredibly powerful time to connect with new families who were navigating early parenthood in isolation.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in attachment-focused care for mothers and babies that prioritizes maternal and infant mental health. I take a holistic approach to challenges surrounding lactation, sleep, and postpartum wellbeing and use evidence-based practices to help families and mothers feel more empowered with the information that they need in order to thrive in early parenthood.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I consider myself lucky to be the mama of two incredible little ones. They have really held the mirror up for me to take a good look at myself and decide what kind of mother
