Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Stewart.
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My first solo was in church when I was 6 years old. It was an “ah-ha moment” for me. I got involved with our local Little Theater, too. Fast forward to receiving a scholarship to study music at Belmont U in Nashville. My senior year, I inked a deal with BNA/RCA.
My music career opened the door for a career in film and television. I’ve recently written and produced a jazz project and I’ll be shooting another film by the end of the year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been an eventful ride, for sure. I’m grateful for all that I have learned in both the sunny days and turbulent times.
Some of my greatest struggles have taught me some of life’s greatest lessons. Record deals that came and went, people whose integrity wasn’t intact and the financial impact of free streaming have all been incredible challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do lots of fun things! I sing, act, write songs and poetry….and I’ve recently taken up ballroom dancing.
I sing with a jazz combo, but I’ve also had a career in country music.
I’m most proud of being a single mom. My son is my world! His friends think it’s pretty cool that I was on Vampire Diaries. But, professionally, I’m grateful to be a BMI award winning songwriter. It was also an incredible experience to get to share the silver screen and learn from a couple of Oscar winners.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the course of my lifetime, I have witnessed profound transformations in the music industry. It’s difficult to predict the future trajectory of music, particularly considering the impact of streaming services, artificial intelligence, and other technologies. But, I’ll keep humming a tune in my kitchen, at least.
