Today we’d like to introduce you to Makeisha McIntyre.
Hi Makeisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have always been active but started to take my health and fitness seriously about 3 years ago. I was in a place in my life where I was unhappy, tired, and just fed up with how I was living, so I took matters into my own hands and began a 90-day fitness program. It was a rough 3 months, but I can honestly say after those 3 months, I felt the best I’d ever felt. Since then, I’ve not only been improving my health and fitness but helping others on their journey as well! This 90-day program sparked a fire I didn’t even know I had. I have been working on creating my programs to provide for individuals so I can help those who are in the same place. I became the best version of myself, physically and mentally.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. At the beginning of my journey, I got defeated because I felt like I should be able to do more than I was capable of. Thankfully I kept pushing myself and moving forward to get past feeling defeated. I remember that I hit a rough spot in my life about a year into my journey. I gained some weight and wasn’t seeing the progress I thought I should see despite doing all the right things, so I thought. I remember during that time, I was struggling with anxiety, depression, and body image issues. It took me about 3 months to pick myself up and begin to work on my mental health. That was when I realized that your mental and physical health go hand and hand. There have been ups and downs throughout the journey, but I’m thankful for all the rough roads because they have made me stronger.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I have just become a full time personal trainer and I specialize working with the general population, but also have a passion for helping young females as well! So currently, I am not doing personal training full time, but I hope to do so soon. I have done personal training and specialize in helping the general population. I have a good way of connecting with people of different ages and fitness goals. I am known for making workouts fun and unique, so you don’t feel like working out. I like to use compound movements, so you get the most out of every workout. I am most proud of the knowledge and progress I’ve made in personal training. There is so much out there to learn. And I feel like I’ve just hit the top of the iceberg with all I know. I feel like I am set apart from others by the way I connect and listen to my clients. I try and give them workouts they will enjoy while still challenging them! The biggest thing I like to do with my clients is pushing them outside their comfort zone! I always tell them to be comfortable getting uncomfortable! Nothing is going to change if you stay in your comfort zone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Honestly, I haven’t had much luck. It’s been a struggle to get to where I am today. Being a personal trainer is tough; starting and getting clients is hard, especially if you are new to an area like I am. I’ve just been trying to work as hard as I can in my spare time to work on gaining knowledge and trying to reach new people I could train and help, mostly via social media. Even though I haven’t had much luck yet, I know this is the field I’m supposed to be in, so I will keep pushing and fighting until I make it.
