Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Gall.
Hi Max, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Raised on living room jam sessions, I picked up the guitar at 12 and haven’t put it down since. After ten years in a band, I moved to Nashville to pursue a solo career and found a second family in the co-writing community. I’m currently recording new music and navigating the balance between the music business and the art of songwriting. No matter what comes next, I’m here for the love of the song.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest hurdles are the financial trade-offs. Funding my music means keeping a side job, which I look at as investing in my future craft. Often that leads to missing out on time with family to prioritize music and rent.
Like a lot of people, I’ve also navigated significant personal chapters, including complex family situations and dealing with past loss. I’m learning to drop some of the old, unhelpful coping mechanisms and focus on better physical, mental and emotional health.
There is a lot of joy, alongside the struggle. However, life is about perspective. If I constantly look for the struggle, I will easily find it—and may even manifest more of it. I think it is best to consciously focus on the joys that you find along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I Do and Specialize In
First and foremost, I consider myself a songwriter. My work revolves around crafting meaningful and resonant music. My core focus right now is on recording and releasing what I believe are my best songs into the world, with the ultimate goal of having people listen to and connect with them.
What Sets Me Apart
I believe my defining characteristic is my unwavering commitment to the craft of songwriting. The significant time and effort I invest in continually honing my skills—striving to become a better songwriter, musician, and performer—is what I hope truly distinguishes me. I see this dedication paying off in the quality of the material I produce.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I am extremely proud of the collection of songs I have written over the last few years. I am equally proud of the genuine and lasting friendships I have cultivated through music here in Nashville.
What makes you happy?
I would say the company of good friends and family, a tasty meal and coffee with a little morning sunshine. What really creates happiness for me, above all that other stuff, is setting goals in life and putting forth effort to move closer towards those goals.
I recently came across the quote, “An idle man is a depressed man.” This is a message I often need reminding of to keep me on track: action, progress, and engagement are crucial for your wellbeing.
I believe that persistent effort aimed at self-improvement is the key to contentment.
I think people will find, that they were significantly happier during periods when they were persistent in their efforts to better themselves and move their chosen purpose forward. The act of striving, rather than the final outcome, is what fuels happiness.
