Conversations with Megan Timmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Timmons.

Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Much of my professional background has been in the Supply Chain Management industry for retail & consumer good companies, but I have always had an itch to pursue a more creative career path.

Going back to my middle school / high school years, I was always the go-to fashion guru for my friends. I remember rummaging through closets and putting together fun looks for school events.

This past year, after having my second child right at the beginning of the Covid-19 quarantine in March, I did a lot of self-reflecting and realized that I truly loved being a stay at home mom and all that it had to offer, but in order to be a wonderful & present mother, I had to fill my tank in other creative ways as well.

Fast forward to August of 2020 when a long-time friend of mine (Kristin, who is also an AMAZING Montessori Blogger; @the.montessori.millennial) reached out to me regarding an upcoming family photoshoot she had scheduled for the fall. Kristin asked if I would be interested in sourcing cohesive outfits for her entire family which she explained to be a stressful and difficult process for her.

To be honest, I was shocked that she was not looking forward to shopping for outfits for her & her family because this is probably the only part of family photos that I actually DO enjoy.

I wanted to make the process seamless and as stress-free as possible for her! As a mom myself, I know that if I am paying for a service, I not only want to be happy with it, but I’d prefer it to save me time because us mamas are BUSY!!

After Kristin filled out my brief questionnaire, I proceeded to put together a few style boards which had outfits selected for each member of her family with shoppable links. The style boards truly help the client visualize how the entire family will look in their photos with all the clothes laid out on a board in an aesthetically pleasing way.

Kristin LOVED what I put together for her family and said she really felt that others would benefit from this type of styling service as well. Being the good friend that she is, she put together a giveaway with her followers on Instagram and that really got the ball rolling for me and my styling business!

Styled by Meg T now offers family wardrobe styling for photography sessions, personal wardrobe styling, vacation wardrobe styling and special event styling!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting any business from scratch is difficult, but especially one in an industry that I had never really worked in before. I have had to find creative ways to market through Instagram, which I haven’t really done before in the past.

Also, styling for family photos during Covid-19 was a bit difficult because a lot of retailers were experiencing longer than normal lead times, shortages and other supply chain issues. However, I will say my background in Supply Chain Management really helped me navigate through some of these unforeseen issues.

Another challenge is ensuring client satisfaction without compromising my personal aesthetic & style. I am honestly still trying to find the proper balance with this, but I am learning and improving every day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
