Today we’d like to introduce you to More Weight.
Hi More Weight, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a three piece rock band from Nashville, TN. We started writing music in the spring of 2023, and have been gigging since that summer. We’ve touring independently a few times, mostly in the South East and East Coast, but at any given time you can find us playing in Nashville.
Our style has really changed a lot over the years. We’ve been caught somewhere between alternative rock and hardcore since the beginning of this band, and we’ve spent these last few months really defining where we feel comfortable in our sound. We are very proud of the music we have recorded and released up to now, but we are so pleased with the songs we have been writing this year and how they represent us as a band and as individuals. We plan to play mostly new material for all of our remaining gigs in 2026. Saying that we’re “excited” is putting it mildly. This band has come a long way in the few years we have been around, and we know that there is so much more work to be done, but we are still so proud to be around,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road worth walking is going to be smooth. We have hit every roadblock and obstacle along the way to get to where we are now. Multiple injuries and surgeries have delayed recording and playing live, personal struggles have killed a lot of creativity, and financial setbacks have made it difficult to play shows outside of Nashville… but we are still giving this dream of ours everything we can in order to make it happen. This whole thing is a roller coaster; one minute we are at our lowest possible point and then the next minute we are riding high, high, high. It’s been said more than a million times by now, but being in a band is not easy. Recording your first record in a freezing cold garage after working a day job all day is not easy. Driving 17 hours to a state you’ve never been in to play a show to maybe seven people is not easy. Writing music, finding time to rehearse, booking shows, making cool artwork for merch, trying to find time to make online content in between all of that… by design, none of this is easy.
We knew that going into this, though.
Every struggle, every obstacle, every failure– and believe us, there has been many– has just continued to shape who we are as individuals and who we are as a band. We knew what we signed up for, and we happily signed up for it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We have two EPs available on all streaming platforms, which we are all very proud of. Our first was recorded in our own garage, and our second was recorded at Smoakstack here in Nashville. Making a record is a tireless task and requires 100% effort and energy from everyone in the room to make it worth while, so the fact that we’ve managed to make two is something we are very thankful for and proud of.
In our short tenure as a band, we haven’t really played that many shows… something like 50 shows in 9 different cities total. Two tours that we organized ourselves entirely DIY, some local heavy hitters here in Music City, and two amazing opportunities to play the artist spotlight slot with Emo Night Brooklyn in Birmingham, AL. We are so thankful for everyone who made each and every one of those shows possible from top to bottom, and we cannot wait to play more.
We have a lot we want to accomplish for the rest of this year… new songs, new shows, new cities, new tricks to keep people engaged with not only our music but our messages too. We feel like a new band, and we’re channeling that energy into everything we do going forward.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Be sure to follow us on instagram @moreweightband to keep up with our upcoming shows, as well as everything else we get up to when we’re not performing on stage. We are all very pumped to get into recording new material over these next few months, so we will definitely be sharing everything we can about the process. What good is being in a band if you’re not also a content creator too now, right?
