Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Elias and Tyler Enslow.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We met in college in a jazz combo at Middle Tennessee State University. We met the first day of class and I actually saved Tyler’s life when he got a splinter in his bass playing finger forcing us to have to go the ER. At first, we took the combo outside of the classroom playing jazz corporate events and weddings-trying to make money playing music of course but it soon began to feel like a chore. That was when we realized we wanted to play original music and really start tapping into our creativity. That was back in 2018. From then to now, we have been developing our songwriting voices and sharing original music with the world to hear. I think we are just getting started though!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. We’ve been at this music thing for a while and the momentum is finally starting to take off. A lot of hours of “exposure” gigs and not a ton of opportunity for “paid” original music gigs. What we’ve realized is that the most important thing now is internet presence. If you have that, you have a really great foundation for your art and a more specific niche of people to find you. During covid-19, we really took the time to create our original art gallery for people to discover us. Because of our growing internet cult, we have been able to find way more paid opportunities for our original music.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are musicians! We specialize in making soulful sounds and making meaningful songs. We actually release new music every Friday on our Youtube page. Every so often, we post some covers on there too. We are known for being weird and different and wholeheartedly ourselves both on the web or at our shows. We are most proud of our Youtube and Instagram pages because we started from the ground up with no videos/songs to releasing one a week and building an entire portfolio in about three months. What’s most exciting is that people are following along now. I think what sets us apart from everyone else is our honesty and production.
How do you think about luck?
Bad luck makes the music hit harder.
