Conversations with Olivia Farabaugh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Farabaugh.

Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
As a little girl, I started singing in the church choir. But, my love for music really began when I picked up the guitar for the first time in 4th grade. I never know the moment I found that old guitar in the corner of my cousin’s room, would change my life forever. I have since had the honor of being a Contestant on Season 10 of NBC’s The Voice as well as having the opportunity to open for amazing artists including Rodney Atkins, Chris Janson, Mitchell Tenpenny, Trent Harmon, Levi Hummon, Dylan Scott, and more. I have also been blessed with being named 2019 and 2020’s Best Female Solo Artist by the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame, as well as winning the 2018 WIOV Showdown, and the 2016’s Central Pennsylvania Nash Next contest.

Throughout this journey, I have to overcome many obstacles including, most recently, my diagnosis with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). I actually just made a video that goes into more detail about my journey that may give you better insight into my life than I can explain on this forum. In 2016, when my health started to deteriorate, I was very quiet about what was really going on behind the scenes. As I started sharing more and more about my story, I realized there are so many people out there going through similar situations. I hope that my story can help someone else find comfort as well as find answers.

I actually have a single coming out on September 3rd, It is called ‘Body Will Break’. For so long I wanted to write a song about this piece of my life that was so private, but I never seemed to know where to start. It was so close to my heart. Then it hit me, the song isn’t supposed to be in the struggle I have physically, but in the struggle to accept this new reality. My mind and body were constantly at war.

My mind being so frustrated with my body, that it wasn’t doing what “it should do” When at the same time my body was trying too hard. I feel like so many of us, for so much of our lives, find a reason to be upset with our bodies. Not working ‘right’, not being skinny enough, having a weird nose, or too large of hips, whatever it may be. When all the while, our bodies are just doing the best they can hope we can love them as they are. I hope that this song can be a reminder to love our bodies for all that they are, because the fact is, we only get one.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter and artist. Music has a beautiful way of bringing people together and I am so blessed to be a part of the experience. My goal is to use my music to give people a space to get lost in and to escape all the troubles from the outside world. I have influences from artists across the board, from Ed Sheeran and Maren Morris to Jack Johnson and Norah Jones, The variety of music I have been influenced by has given my own original music a very unique sound and vibe.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In my senior year of high school. I was so fortunate to be on a State Champion Cross Country team, as well as a State Champion 4 by 800 relay team in track! It was an amazing way to end my high school career!
