Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Deelynn
Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began taking piano lessons at age 3, and never looked back. From there I added on guitar and voice lessons and was active in my local scene with songwriting and performing. I grew up playing the South Dakota State Fair each year and eventually moved to Boston to pursue a degree from Berklee College of Music, which in turn led me to make the move to Nashville. I now write, record and release music from Nashville which has become my home base. I’ve been in Nashville for about two years now since graduating and am loving every moment. My band is also here and we play shows at venues like The East Room and The End.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely a roller coaster. Going through college during the pandemic and then moving to a new city created an entirely abnormal set of circumstances and challenges for me. I also felt very stifled and trapped in a relationship that was quickly turning sour. I was a shell of a person for a good while, heartbroken that I’d lost my college experience to the pandemic, and then losing someone I’d made my rock and hoped to be the rest of my life. This past year has been life changing and incredibly freeing- the moment I decided to take the leap of faith and start releasing my own music was the moment I found myself. Obviously with that vulnerability comes its own challenges and rejection. But I’ve learned that every “no” is one step closer to a “hell yes”.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an alt rock artist with leanings in pop and punk. My latest single “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?” was released to worldwide radio on January 7th and to all streaming platforms on January 17th. Since it’s release, it has charted at #11 on Prospect Radio’s Top 20 Countdown and is currently at #10 on the Euro Indie Music Charts. Can You Hear Me Now? has garnered glowing reviews from renowned publications such as Hollywood Digest and Medium and is being played on major networks across the globe, including BBC 6 (UK), Radio Sydney (Australia) and KIIS FM (US).
In October of last year, I got word that my song “The Dark” was being considered for Grammy nomination. I feel like that was really the turning point in my career here in Nashville. I completed a short press tour shortly after, signed with Artec Sync and released my latest single with Clinetel Records Nashville Sony.
As a songwriter and performer, I strive to blend the authenticity of autobiographical songwriting with the escapism that live music can offer. I want every person at my shows to feel heard and seen and appreciated, and I love feeling connected to them in a way that only art can offer. My band and I have worked really hard to foster that kind of environment at our live shows, which I’m really proud of. Our last headlining show in Nashville drew a crowd of 100+ and was just one big party- truly one of the best nights of my life.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A little fun fact: I grew up on a horse ranch in rural South Dakota!
