Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Ashley
Hi Robyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music has been a passion of mine. I grew up taking music lessons, participating in school choirs, and performing in vocal contests and musical theatre shows. Becoming an Artist was always my dream as there wasn’t a day that went by where I wasn’t writing or singing.
I am a huge believer in time currency and I think we must invest our energy into things that bring us happiness. For me, music has always been the greatest source of joy. In 2021, I decided to jump right in and publicly pursue a career as an Artist.
My debut single, “Sweet Goodbye,” was released in April 2023. I was thrilled to see the track resonate deeply with listeners, climbing the Canadian Indie Country Chart and peaking at number 6. Since then, I have released three more singles and am excited for my next single, “Chasing Red Lights,” to hit streaming platforms in July 2024.
In addition to recording music, I frequently perform on local stages, seniors homes, and spend a lot of time writing music with co-writers I admire. I recently returned from Nashville, Tennessee, where I had the privilege of being mentored by industry professionals and participating in a writers’ round at the Commodore Grille.
I am currently gearing up for a busy summer of performances and am excited to have you all singing along. You can check out my music on all streaming platforms or catch me on social media @robynashleymusic.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Pursuing your passion is never an easy thing. For me, and I think a lot of other people, we all struggle with varying degrees of self confidence issues or imposter syndrome. Its so easy to get caught up in the mental rollercoaster that is being an Artist.
The biggest struggle I face is second guessing my art and overthinking/ being my own worst enemy. Both these things impact my pace and confidence in the path I am taking to purse a career in music. Saying that however, no road worth being travelled is smooth. I personally always try to remember why I do what I am doing. It’s because I love it and it brings me so much meaning – and I want to transfer that joy to others. When I start to lose sight of my ‘Why’, that’s when the road gets more bumpy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Artist, a Vocalist, and a Writer.
In my hometown, I am known for my bubbly/ positive personality and outlook. My energy that I hold in my day to day life definitely is translated to my music. I specialize in my self proclaimed genre of Sparkle Rock. A genre infused by influences from rock, country, pop, and musical theatre, 🙂
The thing I am most passionate about is singing. Bringing music to life vocally is my passion and I love telling stories and making people feel something through song. There is no better feeling than having a group of people sing with you while you’re performing on stage.
I am proud that my debut single reached the top 10 on the Canadian Indie Country Chart. I am so driven and happy to be releasing more music this year. In May of 2024, my first single of the year called Everything’s Changed was released. My next song is coming this July and I am excited for everyone to hear it.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories are all centered around music and time spent with my family, Probably listening to music at the lake or going to concerts.
To me, relationships are extremely important. My grandfather and I were particularly close and he is the one who supported me and my dreams unconditionally. He is often on my mind while I write and perform.
I was lucky to be cast as Jan in a production of Grease. Performing as a Pink Lady is a memory I will hold forever. It was so fun!!
Lastly, I would say my music lessons were such a pillar growing up. I learnt so much from my vocal coaches and owe so much to them. As I continue to work on my craft, I hold very close the lessons I learnt from those I was blessed enough to be coached by.
