Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Stoane.
Hi Sam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Southern California and have lived in Nashville, Tennessee for ten years now. For as long as I can remember, music and horses have always run a consistent parallel in my life. Both directly shaping me into the woman I am today. I have been heavily inspired by artists such as Gene Autry, Loretta Lynn, Eddy Arnold, Emmylou Harris, and Marty Robbins. Throughout my time in this town, I have remained an independent artist, though in recent years, I started working with Wasserman (The Team Agency), which has lead to me opening for artists such as Sam Barber, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Wynonna Judd, Vincent Neil Emerson, Robert Earl Keen, and more. Somewhere along the way, I hired and fell in love with my guitar player. We eloped in March of 2025 prior to releasing my debut record titled, “Tales of the Dark West,” in May of 2025, while I was six months pregnant with our little girl. Since becoming a mom, I am learning the art of balancing my career alongside motherhood and expanding our dreams to the outskirts of Nashville, where we will be running a horse boarding farm and growing a family business. I love working with animals because it keeps me honest, challenged, and grounded. When I’m not on a stage or in a writing room, or changing diapers, you can most likely find me outside or horseback.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I spent the bulk of my time in Nashville growing up, discovering more about who I am, dancing with losing and finding myself again in my early twenties, to feeling confident in who I am and the music I want to make as I approach my thirties. I moved here when I was 19 years old and it took me a long time to find where I fit in. It turns out, I don’t fit the Nashville mold and that’s perfectly okay with me. I think nowadays, it can be challenging as a society to stay authentic when so much of what’s working or “successful” is often a copy and paste formula. I think what’s cool about being a woman in a male dominated industry is that once you find your lane or what works for you and you stick with it, you stand out more. Women have to be unique and one of one. The superpower in that is that it can set you apart.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, the most important title I have is Mama. That’s definitely what I am most proud of too, but I am also a music artist and songwriter. I am passionate about creating true art through music, especially in a time where that is getting lost or taken over by AI. I create western, country music and I love to tell stories that can connect with an audience about what I have lived through from heartbreak, divorce, and love to writing about history or sharing stories from a narrative that allows the listener to feel or go somewhere they’ve never been, whether that’s horseback through the middle of nowhere or an abandoned California coal town. I think it’s so fun to create imagery that’s outside of the lines and that’s a lot of what you will hear in listening to my record.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Definitely more reserved than I am now. I think in my adulthood, I’ve become more extraverted. I have always loved being outside, with animals, horseback, or getting my hands dirty. I love being near the ocean, reading books, and spending time with my family. I am 100% Greek and I love cooking meals for people. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and I love that.
