Conversations with Sarah Meyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Meyer

Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I moved to Nashville from New York 6 years ago with my husband Martel who was offered a position here. I had been working as a remote bookkeeper for 20 years when my employer announced he was retiring, so at 54 I was left to wonder what my next chapter would be. I’ve always loved architecture and interior design, so taking a leap into the world of real estate seemed like the right fit. The challenges faced by a later in life career change – taking classes and studying for exams, jumping into the new world of social media – are far outpaced by the joy of interacting with the public and being a small part of their home ownership journey. It helps to have a super supportive husband who is my biggest cheerleader!

Moving away from family and friends was tough, but I immediately looked for volunteer opportunities when I arrived in Nashville, and I found Nashville Wildlife Conservation Center. I love working in their turtle hospital, as well as getting out into the community speaking about how to co exist with wildlife right in our backyards. Volunteering with such amazing, passionate and kind individuals has taught me so much that I can carry into my career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I came out of the gate strong and had a successful first year as a Realtor. Channeling that momentum and staying relevant is a bigger challenge since Nashville is filled with many great, experienced real estate agents. A strong online presence is crucial these days so recognizing my limitations with technology and seeking out creatives to assist with the process has helped to push through the doubts and keep moving forward!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Realtor covering all of Middle Tennessee. I specialize in working with first time home buyers, in particular freelancers with non traditional income streams that may think home ownership is out of reach. I’m so proud to be a sponsor of Creative Mornings Nashville…the talent in this city is incredible, so if I can play a small part in assisting creatives along their journey to home ownership, that means the world to me.

If I had to say what sets me apart from others in my profession, it’s my focus on the local community. My real estate brand is “Your Nashville Neighbor,” and I take that seriously! Whether I’m posting about locally owned shops and restaurants that I frequent right on my doorstep, or venturing further afield to the wonderful towns and communities that surround Nashville, I’m hoping to introduce my clients, friends and family to the unique aspects of living here.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
From a professional standpoint as a new agent, my broker John Zupancic of Muttz Realty has been integral in teaching me the ins and outs of real estate. Also, going beyond my comfort zone to connect with fellow agents, lenders, and title companies has been a wonderful way to get my name out there and also to establish long term relationships in the industry.

Personally, I started a Facebook group Nashville Women 40+ Aging Gracefully to connect with others who are struggling with all things aging, and knowing I’m not alone in this process has been amazing!
