Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Collins.
Hi Scott, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Here is my BIO: lol. Tall and fierce, with an origin story that reaches back to the infancy of Nashville rock and roll, Scott Collins is probably a vampire. He is well-known as the masculine half of rock duo The Smoking Flowers (with ex-wife Kim), and also as the slashing guitarist in soulful garage outfit Justin and The Cosmics (fronted by his brother). But after years of playing counterpoint in two of Nashville’s most feared bands, Scott Collins has planted his flag on the moon with a long-awaited project entirely his own.
Utilizing his mastery of space which came from playing as a duo — nobody in Nashville can wrangle snarling guitar feedback like he can — and the full-throttle attack of a four-piece band like The Cosmics, Scott Collins has created a new sound and band both familiar to fans of his previous projects, and also to fans of some of the greatest punk and new wave bands of all time. One might hear the urgency of The Clash, the soaring tenderness of Jeff Buckley, the space of My Bloody Valentine, the rawness of Dead Moon, and the integrity of Pearl Jam all in Scott Collins’ songs, but put it all together and it’s a sound as fresh as blood. Drink it down and live to rock forever.
Scott Collins followed up 2024’s solo debut “Purple Pain” with the full band live in studio release “Bravery is Necessary” on January 24, 2025. Subsequently on September 5, 2025 Scott released the sayonara stand alone single “Extinguish The Flame” and then the solo acoustic live in one take “Capistrano Beach” on October 10, 2025. In 2026 we will see another Scott Collins and The Sovereignty full band album.
Scott Collins and The Sovereignty were praised by Static Multimedia as “blistering” in the vein of Neil Young & Crazy Horse and both raw and “emotionally impactful.”
Scott’s albums have received airplay via WNUR, WLUW, WXNA, WZRD, and Radio Free Charleston.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
,,, a smooth road is not really the point. The journey, as mystics say, is the destination. Both the struggles and triumphs, the grace and the fall from, inform the art. We attract the experiences we need in life to help us ascend and raise our frequency, and the opportunity to demonstrate the aptitude we have done so. And for us artists, to reflect all that back to the collective.
A recent challenge has been navigating the divorce of my long term wife and musical partner in The Smoking Flowers Kim Collins. But out of those ashes has risen a rebirthed human being and new artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
i write and perform sAvant Garde music..
I am proud of the provocative nature of my art, albums, and live performances, and a songwriting and performing style that is palpably vulnerable and sensual, with very nuanced imagery and blatantly honest subject matter. In my lengthy experience and tenure in the music business, i have found that to be a rare quality.
I feel like i was mostly known for my guitar tone and style in The Smoking Flowers and The Cosmics, but with Scott Collins and The Sovereignty it is my vocal style and range of expression that is the focal force, After two decades of complimentary creativity, it has been liberating to feel unshackled while descanting.
Disclaimer, of course nothing matters without committing to the songwriting first.
