Conversations with Sedona Feretto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sedona Feretto.

Hi Sedona, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started acting classes when I was around 12 years old. After booking my first lead role in an independent feature at 15, and with encouragement from the director, I moved out to Los Angeles with my parents. I spent 6 years in LA pursuing both acting and screenwriting. I got my SAG card, made a bunch of friends, and loved being in a city where so many others were passionate about the same things I was. However, the cost of living in LA, and the opportunities I was receiving, were starting to take a toll. With Atlanta booming in the film industry, and with the cost of living being much cheaper than LA, I moved to the south. Quickly, I found out Atlanta wasn’t for me, and that’s how I ended up in Nashville. Nashville is one of the most unique cities I’ve ever experienced. The locals (and most visitors) are genuinely interested in what artists are doing, and that’s not just for musicians! It was a shock to find so many caring individuals who just wanted to support the arts, whether it was music, film, or otherwise! The film industry in Nashville only continued to grow, and I was determined to become a part of it. In 2020, I did Nashville’s 54-hour film festival with no team and ended up being nominated in nearly every category for my short film. I was thrilled! I was so excited to go to the premiere and mingle with all of the other fantastic filmmakers who competed. Then, the pandemic hit, and everything was shut down. That was when I decided to join TikTok and use it as an outlet for another love of mine – cosplaying and reading. I discovered a wonderful community of people from all over the world! I began tying in more of my acting with my cosplaying, mostly by doing lines and scenes from my favorite book series, “House of Night”! I also used 2020 as a time to work on my scripts, one of which I’m now turning into a book! Overall, I got to where I am today because of the truly amazing support I have from my family, friends, and fellow film/book/cosplay community. I look forward to pushing myself even further in 2022!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been so many struggles along the way. Some of them are as obvious as the pandemic, and the cutthroat nature of Hollywood, while others are a little more internal and frustrating. Being in the entertainment industry is already one of the hardest things to pursue, not just financially, but mentally and physically as well. Not only that, but as a woman in the film industry, I continue to struggle with body image issues, and feeling like I’m not pretty or skinny enough. Add in social media, and everything feels like times 10! Especially on a platform like TikTok where you can go viral overnight and then not even get 1000 views on some videos. The industry also continues to change at such a rapid rate. Nearly everything is online now, and with streaming, there’s so much content being made! Some of the biggest challenges I’ve faced have been about putting myself and my career first. Whether that be with my job, my health, my friendships, or my relationship, I continue to have to remind myself that I have to prioritize my needs if I’m going to achieve my dreams. Even just saying that feels selfish lol!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m first and foremost an actress and a screenwriter! I’ve been on dozens of sets in all different roles! Whether it was being a lead, day player, extra, or stand-in, every set I’ve been on has taught me something. I would say acting-wise, I’m probably most known for “The Covenant”, which is an indie horror film. I do, however, get a lot of people recognizing me from the background of “Lady Bird” and that is still one of the best sets I’ve ever been on!

There are a few things I’m most proud of, one of them is winning the Imaginarium Convention for my feature script, “Death With Benefits”. I’m also really proud of the number of times my scripts have been quarter-finalist, semi-finalist, and finalist in major screenplay competitions through the years. In addition, my best friend and I recently produced a 6-minute scene from “House of Night” that, on TikTok and YouTube combined, has gotten over 32,000 views!

As for what sets me apart from others, I have a passionate personality, and despite everything I’ve gone through, I don’t hide who I am (weird quirkiness and all!!). That’s not everyone’s cup of tea, which is completely okay! I set my goals extremely high, and when I don’t reach them, I set my next ones higher. I’m an artist and a dreamer who will never stop pursuing what I love, and I have the tenacity and drive to make it happen.

How do you think about happiness?
This will sound cheesy, but I’m always my happiest when I’m creating! There’s nothing like being on a film set, working all day in front of the camera, then getting to come back the next day to do it all again! It’s an indescribable feeling getting to see words you’ve formed in your head, come to life on screen.

Other things that make me happy are my friends, family, and fiancé… Or just curled up with a nice cab and a book, movie, or Animal Crossing (it’s the simple things).
