Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Smith and Alex Bowling. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Stephanie and Alex are from a small town on the outskirts of Nashville, Dickson, TN. Alex started as Stephanie’s assistant and later started an apprenticeship program where Stephanie mentored her until she was fully licensed. We both wanted bigger and better careers in this industry. We finally decided to make a leap and start our own salon in Franklin, TN. We literally hammered and nailed our way in.
So much so that after seeing us every day sweaty, with our shoes off and holding drills, the maintenance man at sola salon said “he guesses we don’t need a maintenance man”. We have the “I can do whatever I wanna do mentality”, which can occasionally get us in trouble but it always pushes us to get what we want out of life!
One message we want people to learn from our story is to never let people get in your way, push yourself out of your comfort zone, and always follow your dreams! Trust us if we can do it so can you!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest obstacle/challenge has been learning to manage everything. We are both moms to young boys who constantly keep us on our toes, while also being full-time hairstylists and business owners.
It took us a while to get accustomed to having so much on our plates. We truly believe it has just pushed us to work harder, we can thank the Capricorn spirit in us for that.

Hair is our passion! Stephanie has been in the industry for 10 years. She specializes in vivids, blonding, and special event hair.
Alex has been in the industry for 3 years and licensed for 1. She specializes in blonding, layered cuts, and special event hair and makeup.
We are both very intrigued and passionate about keeping up with upcoming trends, education, and the study of hair health!
What makes you happy?
Our happiness we are so blessed to have created in what we do every day! We love hair and everything about it, we love being in control of our schedules, lives, and work.
We love our families and our boys everything we do is for them! When we aren’t working (which is rarely) we both love travel and good food and drinks!
