Conversations with Summer Lester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Lester.

Hi Summer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Murfreesboro, TN and went to Blackman High School where I cheered competitively throughout my high school career. After graduating high school, I attend Middle Tennessee State University where I received my bachelors degree in Marketing and Public relations, joined the MTSU cheerleading team and joined the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. My senior year I decided to run for homecoming, where I was crowned 2022 HomeComing queen for MTSU. Not long after gradation, I decided to pick up DJing. I started DJing at parties and small events around Murfreesboro and Nashville, and I am currently DJing clubs out in Nashville with the goal of gaining more consistent experience in the music industry. Outside of DJing, I am a personal trainer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Some struggles along the way included staying consistent and motivated and having to teach myself a lot of the what I’ve learned today to become more well-rounded individual and better at what I do professionally – personal training and DJing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the past 6 months I have been progressing in the music scene by being an African American female DJ who plays electronic dance music in Nashville, Tennessee. I specialize in playing techno music at night clubs and events and I am most proud of the consistent growth I’ve had throughout the year. I started by DJing in my bedroom on a small DJ controller, to opening for big named artists on tour.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
One piece of advise i would give is to unironically never give up and try your hardest to push through any obstacles or speed bumps while on your journey to becoming the person that you desire to be. Don’t allow fear of being judged by outside influences to affect your decisions, and just do what makes you happy.
