Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Hughes.
Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a deep love for music and performing, ever since I was a little girl growing up in Lexington, Kentucky. For a long time, though, I was quite shy and poured most of my energy into athletics. That all changed during my junior year of high school after a career-ending injury. In that moment, I took a leap of faith and decided to fully explore music. I started taking guitar lessons, and my teacher quickly noticed something special. Before I knew it, he brought me to Nashville to perform on a local Comcast TV show called Nashville Spotlight. Standing on that stage for the first time, I felt a sense of certainty I’d never experienced before—this was exactly what I was meant to do.
From there, I began playing shows around my hometown and nearby cities, writing songs, and really honing my craft. I did start college, but by the beginning of my junior year, I knew music needed my full focus and attention. I left school to pursue it wholeheartedly, and I’m so grateful my parents were 100% behind me. Not long after, I met my husband. We got married, and he moved to Nashville with me right away. We’ve now called Music City home for almost nine years.
These days, I’m a full-time country music artist, songwriter, and now a mother. I’ve been fortunate to tour all over the country, opening for incredible acts like Riley Green, Chase Rice, Alexandra Kay, Uncle Kracker, and many more. Along the way, I’ve been nominated and honored at several awards shows, including the Josie Music Awards, the Lexington Music Awards, and most recently the IMIRA Awards in the UK. I write for myself, but I also love collaborating with other artists—I’ve had the joy of landing a few independent artist cuts, including one with Whey Jennings.
It’s been a journey full of faith, hard work, and wonderful surprises, and I’m truly grateful to still be living out this dream every single day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road — but I truly believe anything worth having doesn’t come easy. The music industry is full of highs and lows, and I’ve learned that every situation, good or bad, teaches you something valuable if you stay open to growing from it.
When I first moved to Nashville, one of the biggest challenges was figuring out the people side of the business. You meet so many new faces right away, and it takes time to learn who genuinely has your best interests at heart and who might not. It was a bit of a trial by fire, but I’m so grateful I eventually found my circle. We’re there for each other through the highest highs and the lowest lows — that kind of real support means everything.
There have also been moments when I thought a big opportunity was a sure thing — like a particular tour or opening slot — only for it to fall through at the last minute. At the time it was disappointing and hard to understand, but I’ve seen how God closed those doors and opened even better ones I couldn’t have imagined.
Every artist goes through their own unique struggles in this industry. For me, staying grounded, keeping faith, and trusting the journey has made all the difference.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a country artist and songwriter known for my powerful, soulful voice and deeply authentic storytelling. Over the years, my voice has been described as “rich as chocolate cake,” and Tennessee Star Magazine even dubbed me “country music’s answer to Adele.” While those comparisons are incredibly flattering, what I’m most proud of is creating a sound and style that is uniquely my own.
My music blends country, southern rock, and blues influences, and I’m known for lyrics that connect on a personal level and performances that leave a lasting impression. Fans often tell me they appreciate that I stay true to my artistry and never try to sound like anyone else. In an industry that can sometimes feel crowded with trends, authenticity has always been my greatest strength.
Whether I’m performing a favorite cover song or sharing an original song straight from the heart, my goal is to create more than just a show—I want to create an experience. I love building genuine connections with my audience and making people feel seen, understood, and entertained.
I’ve been incredibly honored to have my work recognized throughout my career, including being named Southern Rock/Country Rock Female Vocalist of the Year at the Josie Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry and receiving Country Song of the Year at the 2026 IMIRA Awards in the United Kingdom. Along with several other awards and nominations, these recognitions have been humbling reminders that the gifts God has given me are resonating with listeners around the world.
What sets me apart is simple: a one-of-a-kind voice, a commitment to authenticity, and a passion for creating meaningful music that people can truly connect with.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m incredibly excited about what the future holds. I plan to release new music later this year and continue expanding my touring schedule by visiting new cities and states while also returning to some of my favorite places, including Texas and Florida. There’s nothing I love more than connecting with audiences in different parts of the country and sharing my music with both new and longtime fans.
One of the biggest milestones in my career recently was making my Bluebird Cafe debut—a dream venue for any songwriter and an accomplishment I’ll never forget. Experiences like that inspire me to keep growing, working on my craft, and reaching for the next goal. One day, I hope to make my debut at the Grand Ole Opry, another lifelong dream.
I’m also looking forward to writing new music inspired by this season of life. Becoming a mom to my beautiful baby girl has changed my perspective in the best possible way, and I know it will influence my songwriting for years to come. More than anything, I hope to show her that it’s possible to pursue your dreams wholeheartedly while also building a happy, loving family. If I can inspire her to believe in herself and chase her own dreams one day, that will be one of my greatest accomplishments.
