Conversations with Vivi McCracken

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivi McCracken

Hi Vivi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been writing songs for as long as I can remember. As soon as I could write, I kept a Hello Kitty notebook with lyrics scribbled into it. After seeing me try to pick out a melody on my little sister’s guitar, my parents signed me up for guitar lessons when I was nine years old. This new skill unlocked a whole new aspect of my love for writing and music. I was constantly playing and singing in my room, and my parents took me to my very first open mic night when I was thirteen, where I fell in love with performing as well. I began booking shows around my hometown of Austin, Texas. Ten years later, my love for music has only grown. I was so fortunate to have grown up in such a vibrant music city, but I always knew that one day I would move to Nashville to pursue this dream even further. After graduating from Ole Miss, I am now living in Nashville chasing the dream I have had since I was a little girl.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every musician in Nashville knows that there are both difficult and rewarding aspects of pursuing a career in music. I am very thankful that both of my parents have been so supportive of my ambitions, and that has made it much smoother than it would have been without them. Regardless, there have been struggles. I moved to this city knowing a few friends of friends but without many big connections or deep relationships here. Growing a network of colleagues and friendships was very daunting at the beginning and difficult to navigate. I was not sure how to determine what relationships in the industry were right for me and what opportunities were worth pursuing. Fortunately, as I have met more people that I know I can trust, it has slowly become easier to recognize who is truly on my team as an artist and as an individual.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of my favorite aspects of being a singer/ songwriter is writing lyrics. My lyrics are so important to me and provide a glimpse into the inner workings of my brain. The easiest and most natural way for me to express and articulate a thought or a feeling is through the words of a song. I find that I am able to capture my sense of humor, wit, and emotions through even just a few lines. It is such a beautiful process.
I tend to always be most proud of my latest work, and my recent single is no exception. I released a song called Every Day on July 26, 2024. I wrote this song by myself back in February, and this is the first time that I have released a song while I still feel exactly the way that I did when I wrote it, so it has a very special place in my heart. Everything about this song is such an expression of myself, from the lyrics to the production. The song is a sweet folk love song, and it truly captures my sound. I worked with a producer named Blake Mohler on this song (and on all the other songs that I have released) and working with him was an absolute dream. Blake is so easy to communicate with and was able to turn my vision for this song into a reality.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to support me is to stream and share my music! If you enjoy what you are hearing please pass it along to a friend! I also play at writers rounds and other events around Nashville, so please come by and say hi! I am also always looking for talented singer/ songwriters to cowrite with and for musicians to perform with.
