Conversations with Walter Suggs, Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Suggs, Jr.

Hi Walter, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Four almost five years ago, I noticed that the same things kept happening in my life. My life was literally going in circles I sat down and asked myself what was best for me my life and what I really wanted.

Even though I changed my major at school a few times and even took a few breaks from school music was always there and eventually, I decided to take it seriously.

So four almost five years ago, I decided to go back to school and learn the ends and out of audio recording and production and get better at my instruments, and when I got my associate’s I moved to Nashville and that was almost three years ago now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I lost my life savings right before I moved here a jealous college roommate (who had actually flunked out of the school the semester before) stole from me. He and one of my other roommate used my card information on one of my devices he stole and emptied out my account.

Right after I moved to Nashville, I fell for a Craigslist scam and ended up having to live in a house with no water or power for a month and fell for another scam right after that because I had to find somewhere else to go ASAP and had to take the first thing I could find and that caused me to lose everything back in September when literally none of the people involved (the real landlord, their lawyers, the judge) would help me.

I had been in Nashville for 2 years at that point and I thought I made more friends than I actually did going to writers’ rounds and networking events but I didn’t and only about 3 people (out of a few hundred contacts) offered to help and nobody actually came through sadly if you’re not somebody important in the industry or Mr. Popular around town nobody really has time to be bothered.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and audio engineer I don’t have any music out I took down all my old music when I decided to go in a different direction I will be releasing my first mixtape next year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve been called lucky several times but honestly, I don’t really believe in it a success is an opportunity meeting preparation if you do something productive every day towards your goals and dreams. You can create your own luck by being able to take advantage of chance encounters and take advantage of meeting the right person at a networking event or conference or whatever.
