Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Laas.
Hi Zach, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got the Nashville bug in early 2015. I came to visit an aunt, brought my guitar and played an open writer’s round at the Commodore Grille. I knew then I would make it a mission to move here. In 2017, I did just that — I moved down here on August 1, 2017, from my hometown of Stover, Missouri and have been here since. I have connected with numerous artists and songwriters. I’ve been recording my own material down here practically since my move, released an album and a few singles, I’ve guest-played on a number of songs recorded by new friends down here, playing bass, guitars and harmonica; I recorded and EP with my brother-in-songs Matt Nagy as our group Leggy Noss. We challenged each other and wrote and recorded the entire project together; and I also have played in a couple of groups down here. Currently, I am working on my follow-up to my 2021 album “Roads” and playing bass/keys in a Led Zeppelin Tribute Band called The Black Dogs. You can find my music on Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, Amazon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, for me it’s all about reality. It’s been slow, but I am living my dream at my own pace. I also work a full-time job to pay the bills. The struggle sometimes is the writing and getting time to play. And honestly the only person standing in my way is me. But I have every intention of making 2026 a very productive year. I am going to hit more songwriter’s rounds, I am going to play out more, I am going to network more.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I am not writing or practicing music, I am working full time for a pet cremation service in Nashville. It was a unique job listing to say the least. But to help people in their worst hour has been a privilege. A pet is a family member, and when someone’s pet passes you are dealing with people who need help the most. I’ve been working there for a little over six years now, and I love connecting with people and helping them during their darkest moment. They and their pet need that love and support in that difficult moment and I am glad to be there to help.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Music. Music is everywhere in Nashville. I love that. There is competition and comradery there. You want to do well, but you’re so happy for the guy or girl sitting next to you playing awesome music. I love that in the music scene. The worst is definitely the traffic!
