Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Thomas.
Hi Aaliyah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the youngest of three girls. Ever since I was little, I have had a passion for the Arts & expressed my creativity. Expressed this creativity through several avenues, but Beauty is one of the primary sources. When I was thirteen years old, I remember making a makeup palette with glycerin, glitter, & aloe Vera juice. At thirteen, that’s when I also began taking Makeup seriously. I began to watch YouTube tutorials and freely experiment with different color shadows and pigments. Makeup then began to turn into my daily ritual. When I turned 20 years old, I decided to start posting my looks on Instagram. From the mirror vanity in my room to on a movie set this year, I am extremely grateful to now be able to travel as a makeup artist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest thing I struggled with in my early childhood / pre-adolescence was self-doubt and confidence. I was always made fun of for doing my Makeup, among various other things. When I began doing the work on myself and realizing my true potential is when I stopped caring what other people thought. Instagram became an amazing outlet for me to push myself outside my limits and grow as an individual and an artist.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a Makeup Artist, Beauty Content Creator, and Stylist. In terms of Makeup, I specialize in Full Glam/Editorial looks. I post Beauty related content on my Instagram, TikTok, & Pinterest, which I go by “Slaynlay.” What sets me apart from others is my “why” not only do I take part in this craft because I’m passionate but also because I care about the well-being and confidence of women I come across! I am most proud of my ability to connect and uplift women through my artistry and overall to be a person.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the beauty industry continuing to thrive. I know this industry is thriving in terms of the digital meta verse, and more brands are becoming more creative with digital tools and products! The amazing thing about my industry is what it does for people.
