Abu da Don, born Jeremias Elston, is a Nashville native whose life is a vibrant tapestry of athletic prowess and entertainment brilliance. Growing up, Abu was a beast on the football field, dazzling as a standout quarterback at Hendersonville High School and earning a coveted spot at Tennessee State University. Although he initially pursued his football dreams with fervor, his love for the game eventually evolved, leading him to pivot from the gridiron to the spotlight.
In high school, Abu wasn’t just the star quarterback; he was also the life of the party. Hosting epic gatherings with his friends, he honed his skills in front of a crowd long before stepping into the larger arenas of his future. At TSU, while he chose to focus on academics after his sophomore year, his knack for entertaining never faded. Instead, it flourished. Abu’s charisma and energy soon saw him commanding stages across the South, including iconic venues like the FedEx Forum and Bridgestone Arena.
Then came the pandemic—a time of reflection and reinvention for many. For Abu, it sparked a new passion: rapping. What began as a pastime quickly transformed into a serious pursuit, and when he dropped his debut project, he captivated audiences and critics alike.
Abu da Don’s journey from a high school quarterback to a dynamic entertainment figure is a testament to his adaptability and creative spirit. He continues to blend his diverse talents, making his mark both on and off the stage, and proving that with passion and perseverance, you can redefine your path and rise to new heights.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is rarely smooth and mistakes are inevitable. What’s crucial is learning from them. Remember, observing someone else’s success doesn’t reveal their entire journey. Each path is unique; some may seem effortless, while others are fraught with challenges. The key is to embrace your own journey, cherish it, and live it fully. Your personal path, with all its ups and downs, is what will ultimately help you grow and become a better version of yourself.

Currently, I am a multifaceted artist and MC, as well as the CEO of Top Flight the Brand. My career gained significant momentum through my early work as a host, collaborating with industry professionals such as DJ Wheezy and A List. What distinguishes me in my field is my versatility; being a jack of all trades has proven advantageous in many situations, allowing me to adapt and excel across various domains.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking is a pivotal factor that can significantly influence the trajectory of your career. Many individuals hesitate to take risks due to concerns about potential failure or uncertainty about the outcome. This fear often leads to a life of wondering “what if” rather than pursuing opportunities. Embracing risk is essential for achieving success and reaching your goals. Success rarely comes easily or without effort, and it is not uncommon to encounter setbacks or financial losses along the way. However, these experiences are valuable for personal growth and learning. By taking calculated risks, you enhance your chances of reaching your objectives and achieving your desired outcomes.
