Daily Inspiration: Meet Adam And Kristi Sturgeon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam And Kristi Sturgeon

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Kristi and I were born and raised in Southern California. We met after our careers had begun. I was a Police Officer in Long Beach, CA and Kristi taught primary grade school in Adelanto, CA.

We were married in 2010 and moved to Santa Clarita after our first daughter was born. We have two beautiful girls (Kayli -12 and Addison – 10).

After 8 years of marriage, we went through a hard time and ultimately got divorced in 2019. After COVID was on full swing, we found our way back to each other and to God. We decided to take a huge leap across the country and follow Gods plan for us to start fresh.

We were remarried in May of 2022 and moved to Spring Hill, TN the next month.

Kristi and I took some time figuring out what the next step was for us and decided to start a small business. We started with the coffee trailer in November of 2022 after heeding some great advice and guidance from other coffee shop owners.

In January of 2023 we decided to build out our current location which is our first coffee shop. This location is an industrial warehouse in Spring Hill just off of 396 (Saturn Pkwy) and Port Royal Rd. We opened the shop in March of 2023 and have been growing ever since.

We decided to purchase a second mobile vehicle – our Coffee Truck, which was built out by a local contractor who we met through the church. We were able to get the truck out on the road in March of 2024.

We are now in the process of closing on our second location, which will be in Tollgate Village – Thompson’s Station, TN, which we hope to have open by Spring of 2025.

We would not be here without the loving support of our Family and the community. We have never felt such a close relationship with various people and it’s all thanks to God for bringing us here.

Between our Church (The Bridge), our business, and our children’s sports activities, we have met the most wonderful people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest struggle in our family was 2018-2021 when Kristi and I were separated and ultimately divorced. It took a global pandemic to help us find our way back to each other and back to God. We were completely lost during that time.

For our business we have been constantly trying to keep up with the needs of the business and the availability of resources. We have had struggles with pricing, distributors, contractors, staffing, and scheduling, but we push through and try not to let the little things get us down.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are entrepreneurs (now) which is very strange to say. I swore I would never own my own business and now here we are.

The name White Shepherd Coffee stemmed from two gorgeous White Shepherd dogs that my parents have and our logo (a shield) represents and honors the past when Kristi and I devoted most of our lives to public service.

How do you define success?
I recently heard that if your business allows you to spend time with the ones you love, take your wife out to lunch, walk your kids to school, and enjoy time with your family, then you have a successful business.

I agree. I have never missed a meal. I am able to attend my kids sporting events, I have the ability to go to the mountains or the beach a couple times a year, I get to take my wife to lunch (not every day of course), I’m home to coach my kids and be at their recitals. And all the while, we have a trustworthy staff to attend to the business on the occasions when we are away.

Much of this I missed out on as a Police Officer – I will do everything in my power to make sure this is the priority – Always!
