Daily Inspiration: Meet Adam Burch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Burch

Hi Adam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Pensacola, Florida, coming from a family of medical and wellness practitioners. My mother was a nurse for twenty years, one of my sisters is an Occupational Therapist, another one is a massage therapist and wellness educator, and I have an uncle who use to be a massage therapist. I also have a brother-in-law who is a psychiatrist. So, I’ve been around a lot of intelligent and nurturing energy most of my life and it only feels natural to pay that forward by facilitating that however I can for people in my own unique way. I was diagnosed at eight years old with Hashimoto’s which is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. I had a bad thyroid crash in 2011 after trying to get off my medication that lead to a myxedema coma. Before I got into the wellness field, I lived in New Orleans, and New York, acting, modeling, and playing music. All of this pushed me into the direction of health and wellness, getting into teaching yoga in 2015 and massage and energy work in 2017 after graduating from The New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics in Albuquerque, NM. Now, I’ve lived in Nashville, TN for two years where I’m building my wellness business alongside my music career, working on fusing the two together by curating interactive mystical and musical wellness events. Living in the Land of Enchantment unlocked my love of studying and teaching others about metaphysics, mysticism, and tarot. I’ve gotten to work at events with Deep Tropics, a beautiful wellness community in Nashville and soon I’ll be working with local businesses like The Makeup Altar to facilitate more of these types of events.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a challenging adventure to say the least. I heavily underestimated how important thyroid health was and how much hormones have an effect on mental health. I had to learn the hard way how to properly pay attention and care for my thyroid health, but everyone’s body is different and it pushed me to get to know myself more and what my body needs. Now, I get to teach others how to do the same. I put off music for a long time in my early 20’s even though it’s always called me, but I’ve realized emotionally that the issues are always in the tissues and when we deny our creative expression, it show’s up in the body as disease. The throat area is about communication and self expression, and learning to prioritize my creativity has helped my overall well-being tremendously. Also, Learning patience has been a huge challenge for me. Coming to terms with how long it actually takes to build a business and a career is no joke.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been releasing music since 2018. I got to release a Jazz EP with a New Orleans band a couple of years ago. I love writing and singing about nature, mysticism, and religion. One of my proudest moments was when I played the lead in a play called “The Last Five Years” at a community theatre in Albuquerque, NM. The pianist was an incredibly talented elderly woman named Mindy who had been playing piano for years and pushed through the pain she was experiencing with her arthritis to do this play. I was in massage school at the time and would massage her hands and wrists in between rehearsals and shows. It seemed to help her. Her wrists felt like they were hanging on by a thread. I loved getting to know her and bond with her throughout the experience. When we opened the show, I got her on the local news network on a segment where they honor people in the community for their work and contribution. They gave her an interview and $400. It was a very proud moment for me because seeing how happy I made her made me realize my role and love for serving community and how specializing in Natural Therapeutics has helped sustain and support myself creatively. It also made me realize the body is the most important instrument we have and I now have the wisdom and knowledge to sustain my body throughout my creative career.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to accept people the way they are. To not try and force relationships or change people and to meet them where they’re at. It remains one of my biggest challenges.
