Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex And Shené Scott.
Hi Alex and Shené, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2001, Alex and Shené Scott committed their time and energy to serving their communities in youth ministry, as a firefighter, and as a teacher. Due to their passion to help others and the life-altering events they experienced performing their career responsibilities, they focused their attention on volunteering to assist those individuals and families they met. After experiencing numerous obstacles within their family, helping through volunteering, donating monetarily, and collecting resources for people in need only quenched their thirst on a small scale. The Scotts felt a strong desire to do more and share what they had learned through their life changes. The desire to help others on a larger scale brought about the inception of Vine Branch Fellowship in 2019. With the help of friends, family, and relationships established over 20 years, the Scott family has been helping others. Vine Branch Fellowship was created to focus on fellowship, promoting healthy lifestyles, charitable giving, and education programs in the local and surrounding communities.
VBF strives to connect the VINE of resources in communities to a BRANCH of individuals in need of assistance through FELLOWSHIP opportunities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a nonprofit organization, we offer all of our programs at no cost. Therefore, our biggest challenge is monetary support. We do not have products to sell to add value to what we do, so we must find donors and organizations that feel that our mission, helping to create a healthier community, is of value.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vine Branch Fellowship is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that designs programs to equip individuals, families, seniors, and low-income groups with the tools to create healthier food options. We seek to combat the growing concerns of diabetes, celiac, obesity, depression, and other chronic health illnesses. VBF creates opportunities with a centralized focus of connecting individuals and/or families with opportunities to assist those in need, through installing school and community gardens, nutrition classes, education, and volunteering.
We have several school gardens in Lebanon Special School District, along with over 20 indoor aeroponic gardens in classrooms. We also offer plant/gardening classes that follow district standards. Next to the Lebanon Senior Citizens Center, VBF also installed a large community garden that provides free produce and is open to the community. During the summer we provide a free summer camp at Fiddlers Grove where we have lots of fun with school age children who learn about gardening, health, nutrition, fire safety and more!
