Daily Inspiration: Meet Alyssa Dicarlo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Dicarlo.

Hi Alyssa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with an array of artistic ideas. I spent several years modeling in both Arizona and Florida before relocating to Northern Alabama. My ideas continued to soar in the realm of the visual arts, and I had yet to meet a photographer who shared my vision, so alas, I became my own photographer.

What started as a simple plan to be a self-portrait photographer blossomed into something extraordinary. I brought both my own visions and the dreams of others to life with the magic of photography. I connected with fellow creatives from Nashville, Huntsville, and beyond. I spent countless hours and endless nights perfecting my craft, studying my gear, and creating an image of which I could be proud.

Today, I’m beyond lucky to have worked with beautiful models, charming families, dreamy couples, and most importantly, myself. It’s only up from here!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been some challenges, financially and creatively. Photography, as most know, is a pricey craft.

COVID-19 rattled almost every creative and small business, and I was not exempt from that. Trying to find business during this difficult time proved challenging, but the end results were nothing less than rewarding. I had the ability to work with dreamers and creatives alike safely. The health and safety of my clients and models is something I value above all.

Every single struggle was worth it to get to this point, and I’m beyond thankful for everyone I’ve worked with despite the challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in portraits and *gasp* horror! I’m definitely known for my dabbles in the darker realm of photography. With Spooky Season right around the corner, I am beyond thrilled to further explore the genre that molded me into the photographer I am today.

I’m most proud of my creativity. I believe that I have a special eye when it comes to uniqueness. I enjoy capturing angles, subjects, and vibes that prompt people to take a second (or third) look.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Gosh, there are so many different routes that I can take within the next 5-10 years. I’m really hoping to expand my gear and test the limits of my artistic abilities. I’m hoping to get into the world of photoshop, where I can really manipulate images and create stories from seemingly nothing. The biggest thing that I definitely see is constant improvement. Five years from now, I hope to create images that I dream of crafting today seamlessly.
