Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssia Dominguez.
Alyssia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began learning to play guitar from my grandmother when I was 15 years old. She taught me to love Tejano music. I knew I wanted to be a musician. I started performing at local venues and was hooked. I grew up in a small town where country music was played on the radio 24/7 and at the time Taylor Swift had just arrived on the radio scene.
I heard her music and she inspired me to write my first song. I realized my love for Country and Mexican music came out in my songs. I am proud to sing music that is popular by adding a hint of my heritage. 13 years later I am still performing live, making music that I love, and don’t have plans of stopping any time soon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For me, the most challenging aspect of the music business has been building and maintaining relationships. Everything depends on connecting with the right people at the right time and place, and this can be difficult.
Also, in this business, you are the product, and being confident and secure in your own abilities can have a huge impact on how you are perceived by others. I always have to remind myself that I am worthy of people’s time when I am performing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My music is a unique blend of Country music and my Mexican heritage.
I love bringing people together with my songs and introducing people to a style they may not be familiar with. I am most proud of my ability to connect with people through my music. Seeing people dancing and singing to my songs is one of the greatest feelings I have ever experienced.
What are your plans for the future?
I am working on recording a new EP with some of my favorite songs yet. I am constantly working with new writers, and meeting new people in the industry, and hope to continue to grow my network in the coming months and years.
