Daily Inspiration: Meet Amandine Bossy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amandine Bossy

Hi Amandine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been captivated by the beauty and strength of birth and motherhood. Growing up in the coastal town of Pornichet, France, I was surrounded by strong women, and their journeys into motherhood left a lasting impression on me.

My path to becoming a doula was a bit unconventional. I initially pursued midwifery studies in France, but the process felt too clinical and detached from the personal connection I was seeking. So, I took a break to explore the world and ended up in the United States as an au pair for a family in the Nashville area. I quickly fell in love with the warmth of the people and the charm of the countryside. It felt like home, and I knew I wanted to build my life here.

Through a local French expat group in Brentwood, I met my husband, Bart. We’ve maintained close ties with that community, keeping French traditions alive in our home and with our friends. I completed my degree in Psychology at Lipscomb University, and as we started our own family, I became concerned about the lack of birthing options available to me.

I didn’t know much about childbirth in America, and the high rate of cesarean sections was terrifying. I needed an option that allowed me to take control of my birthing experience.

I chose to have a natural home birth, and through that journey, I learned about doulas—a role not as common in France. It was a revelation for me. Becoming a doula felt like the perfect blend of midwifery and psychology, allowing me to build a deep connection with mothers, support them through their fears, and be by their side during the most profound moments of childbirth.

After the birth of my first child, I trained as a doula and made it my mission to bring modern, evidence-based care and innovative European practices to new mothers and babies in Nashville and beyond.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Doulas were not as popular when I opened my company so it was difficult to get clients. I had to initially convey two things: why they needed a doula, and why I would be the perfect fit for them. Having a doula as part of a mom’s birth team quickly became essential for expecting parents in the US, so now I just have to show them that I would be a great fit for them. It’s much easier!

Also, I built my business as a stay-at-home mom. I started when my son was only 12 months old. My husband frequently traveled for work, and all of our family was in France. I was completely alone. Being on call day and night, not knowing when my clients would give birth, finding childcare solutions, even at 3 AM was the biggest challenge. It is still a challenge but my three children go to school now, and I have a fabulous village of friends supporting me, so it is much easier.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Mama Moon began as a simple doula service nearly a decade ago, but today it has expanded into a full-spectrum support system for new families. In addition to providing birth doula services, we now offer comprehensive postpartum care, including newborn night nursing. This has been a game-changer for parents adjusting to sleepless nights. Our team includes neonatal and pediatric registered nurses who not only care for newborns but also guide parents through feeding, soothing techniques and establishing healthy routines.

What sets Mama Moon apart is our holistic approach to childbirth. We’re working to shift the childbirth experience away from being purely clinical and detached, prioritizing the emotional, physical and spiritual well-being of both mother and baby. That said, we support all birthing journeys based on what feels right to the mother for those wanting a traditional hospital birth, pain management, elective c-section or to formula feed. Through our prenatal classes, which explore a variety of birthing methods, and our postpartum workshops, focused on nurturing both baby and mother, we foster a community of informed and empowered parents.

We’re most proud of our dedication to supporting families at every stage of their journey — ensuring that parents feel confident, cared for and connected throughout the entire process. Mama Moon is not just a service, but a community that champions the well-being of both mothers and babies.

How do you think about luck?
I was very lucky to build lasting relationships with health professionals like midwives and OBs all around Nashville, especially with Women’s OB. They routinely refer my services to their clients, and it’s been awesome.
