Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna McClellan.
Hi Anna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
God fully led me to where I am at today. I’ve always had a passion for fitness and health. When I first moved to Nashville, I trained boxing classes for 8 years and during this time got married and had my first baby. I learned firsthand how much can change after you have children and how women’s health is fully lacking on how to support mamas after birthing these sweet babes. We have one six week check up where we’re just given the thumbs up with no guidance or help on how to progress back into the things we love to do. Women are left trying to find the answers on their own or left thinking “this is now my new norm.” I find it a massive disservice. After the birth of my second baby, I went through doula training. Labor and delivery was another passion of mine that I felt the Lord was calling me to. I am obsessed with all things birth and want women to know how empowering and transformative this process can be! However with a 3 and 1 year old, being on call for births was just not in the cards at that time. I was still doing group and personal training at the time, so I decided why not marry all my passions together. So I went through several certifications for pre/postnatal exercise. I started my business called Move Like A Motha and I’m now working with women every day through all seasons of motherhood. From preconception, to pregnancy, to postpartum. It has been BEYOND rewarding. I have such a passion for women. I want them to know their worth, their strength, and to feel empowered as they navigate these beautiful yet challenging seasons.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have definitely been struggles. More so personal struggles. My number one priority is my family. And when things with my business took off, I was a bit ill prepared for the mental load it would bring. Especially in the midst of having another baby. Many would say it’s good problem to have and I agree….to a certain extent. As moms, our mental loads are already high. So to add a business on top felt too much So I had to really create boundaries and find balance. I like to feel fully present with my kids so when my mind felt consumed by a laundry list of “to dos” both in motherhood and business, I set out to unload my plate.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a pre/postnatal corrective exercise specialist. I work majorly with pregnant and postpartum women to help educate them to feel and function as best they can. I am most proud that I get to do what I love. I genuinely want to help women. I don’t give quick fixes, blanketed advice, or misinformation. I want to work and learn with other women. I want them to understand the changes that are happening from within them. I want them to feel empowered and to know that they are not alone, no matter what it is they are going through.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I’m not sure I have a specific childhood memory that comes up. I loved sports growing up. I threw myself into them. When I think about my childhood, a lot of memories are on a ball court, field, or track!
