Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Bouknight-Claybrooks.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
LilaLue Sweets began as a way to share my love of baking with my family and friends. Baking is my love language. Every dish, every package is crafted with love. As my passion evolved into a business, I do my best to make sure each box is curated in the same fashion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to entrepreneurship has definitely not been easy. Working full time, being a full-time mommy and wife, and all while dealing with a pandemic has been rough. However, being in the kitchen gave me so much peace. I was able to lean into my artistry in a way that felt healing. The support of my inner circle kept me motivated. I’ve been able to create a beautiful brand and remain true to my artistry as a baker,
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
LilaLue Sweets is a small batch, bakery making baked-to-order cookies, cakes, and brownies in Nashville, TN.
LilaLue’s is named after my grandmother, Lila. Born in 1917 in rural South Carolina, Lila worked as a cook for the University of South Carolina. On the weekends, she sold prepared meals and homemade whiskey to help provide for her family. Lila was strong and determined to leave a legacy for those to come. Over 100 years later, LilaLue Sweets continues in that legacy. We add the finest whiskey as a reminder of the lovely Lila… plus it makes for one damn good treat.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating beautiful experiences for others makes me happy. Each box of LilaLue Sweets is carefully curated to ensure a memorable experience from box to first bite.
