Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Markham.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got asked to sing a part on a Casting Crowns song in my grandfathers church in Vinita, Oklahoma when I was about seven years old. I barely knew what a microphone was, but I knew I loved music. I remember sitting on the front row during band rehearsals before church just locked into the music and singers. I grew up leading worship and singing at that same church until I was about twenty years old and I still visit that church to this day. That started my love for music and love for singing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My childhood was far from normal, even from birth I fought for my life. I was born with two holes in my heart and a list of other issues. I’m no stranger to a fight.
I grew up with my mom and my brother and we overcame lots of challenges. I lived next door to my grandparents small cattle ranch and being their next door neighbor shaped my life probably more than anything.
I moved to Nashville at 20 smack in the middle of the pandemic. I knew one person and rented a room from her until I got on my feet.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Authenticity. Perseverance. Determination. Grit. Faith.
