Today we’d like to introduce you to Brennan White.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My recent story is that I moved back to Nashville after being gone for 13 years in Mississippi. In the midst of the hardest few years of my recent life arose an album of music about finding life lessons in the midst of loss, taking accountability, and embracing the changes. Along with making my own music, I also play lead guitar/BGV’s for a couple touring artists in town (Jeremy McComb & Jenny Tolman).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The last few years back in Nashville have been full of hardship, strain, and immense growth. I’ve started completely over again in so many ways. I’ve lost jobs, found new ones, gotten divorced, had to let go of some great friendships, and after releasing music under the moniker “Codetta South” for nearly a decade, I recently decided to drop it and rebrand as simply my name “Brennan Michael White.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve found creative freedom in using limitations recently; limiting myself to using simpler recording tools and tactics. For 5 motifs I released last year, I limited myself to only 5 tracks of acoustic guitars per song, for example. I’m also in the midst of recording and mixing a cover album on a portable studio I’ve had since I was 14 (Zoom R16), and my next album called “Silence & Static” was written to sound complete with just one guitar and vocal – every guitar nuance intentionally meant to highlight the vocal and intertwine with the melody by playing with it or underneath it. When you listen to classical music, you aren’t waiting for the bass to drop or the 808 to come in – that’s the same level of “completeness” that I aimed for with this new album.
How do you define success?
Ultimate creative freedom and the means to provide for yourself and your family.
