Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Hicks.
Hi Carla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I go by Carla DeAnna I started off as a journalist as I went to school for multi media journalism worked in media. I later realized I could still be in involved in media by being a content creator and being in control of my own story and life. I lived in Murfreesboro for a couple of years after I graduated from MTSU and decided last year I wanted to pack up and move to Nashville to take my content serious. Here I am 6 months in of “taking content serious” I blew up in less than a year forever grateful!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There is a misconception on it content creating being easy. When I first got started I struggled with brands responding to me. I did not sit around and wait for an opportunity I branded myself to multiple restaurants, hotels and companies got a lot of no but got a few YES. There is going to be rocks in the road sometimes you have to work for free or you are going to run into slow months but it will pick up. I am a firm believer that struggle doesn’t last forever
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a content creator who specializes in lifestyle, food and travel. I am known for letting the city of Nashville know what’s going on in the city for upcoming events and places to visit. I am most proud of the opportunities I’ve been presented in such a small amount of time and being able to put smiles and motivate girls who look like me. I get DM’s everyday of people thanking me for helping them get out their homes or even make content. What sets me apart from others is that I’m authentically myself and I am one of few people in Nashville with a niche of “upcoming events” when people search for things to do in Nashville I am on the first people who pops up. I find that I am relatable to my audience and I give them a form of comfortability.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Advice I would give someone looking to get into content is network find out when creator events are and put yourself in the rooms you deserve to be in! Keep posting stay consistent! What has worked for me is posting at least 3 times a day and networking with other local and nationwide content creators. I’ve made great friends with some content creators here and we always let each other know about the creator events and support each other. Get out and network!
