Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Messer.
Hi Christopher, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Started snapping photos when I was 14, and a family friend let me tag along and help second shoot a few weddings for her! Now at 22 years old I’m currently booking up 2022/2023 with weddings! I mostly shoot south of Nashville but have had a few weddings in the city. I’m looking to refine my business in the next year to mostly weddings, elopements, and family photos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Mostly, there was a ton of trial and error at first. A camera can be a little tricky to learn how to get consistent results. After high school, I attended a community college while I continued to shoot in my town. I then moved to Chattanooga to attend UTC, so I lost some of my momentum there as I was not taking many bookings with the drive being so long. Luckily, I have recovered and soared past any momentum I had before!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love capturing the emotions of a wedding day, whether that be happy or sad. I want viewers to be able to feel what is happening in the photo. My favorite thing is capturing parts of the day that the bride and groom never get to see. I’m known for getting genuine smiles out of my clients. I think what sets me apart from others is my approach to photographing weddings. I don’t pose much of anything until it’s time for portraits or couples’ portraits. My reasoning behind this is I love getting to capture what happens. I’m obsessed with finding a suitable composition in a not-so-flattering space or light.
How do you think about happiness?
Getting to see couples truly in love with each other on the best day of their lives! how could you not?! When I come home from a wedding my face hurts because seeing to people completely head over heels for each other makes my smile for hours on end.
