Daily Inspiration: Meet Claudia Moldovan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Moldovan.

Hi Claudia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Claudia Moldovan and I own a small art business located in Albany, New York. I am a woodworker and sound wave artist. I started my company 5 years ago and for the first few years, my art consisted of decorative geometrical wooden sculptures until one day, a friend pointed out that one of my pieces looked like a sound wave and suggested I add meaning to my art by recording my voice and creating an art piece following the pattern of its waves. That was the start of my wooden sound waves.

I love experimenting with different wood, color, and techniques, to find the perfect way to bring the sound waves to life. The idea of being able to turn something intangible like sound into a physical, visual form is deeply fascinating.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started the business, I didn’t know anything about woodworking, I was breaking rules I did not even know existed. It’s been a long journey and I keep learning new techniques every day to improve my pieces.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Through my artwork, I create visual representations of sound that not only captivates the eye but also represent the rhythm of the audio. They are meaningful and a great conversation piece. I love working with wood. I find that the natural textures and grains of the wood add a unique character to each piece. My goal is to add meaning to the idea of sound, making it not just something we hear, but something we can see and touch as well. I have made everything from a baby’s hiccups, and songs, to memorable quotes.

The most popular phrase is “I love you”. In essence, my work is about transforming sound into a tangible form, creating an experience that is both visually and emotionally captivating. When I work directly with my customers, they are part of the entire process. We work together to paint a picture of what the final piece will be, the color theme, size, and sound clip. I have designed pieces for commercial spaces, such as Google in CA, and many pieces in homes all over the world, including Australia, the UK, and various countries in Europe.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have never worked with a mentor due to the uniqueness of my artwork. I am however part of many art and woodworking groups on Facebook.
