Daily Inspiration: Meet Daniela Cortina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Cortina

Hi Daniela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello my name is Daniela Cortina.
I’ve been a licensed esthetician for 3 years. I first went to Makeup Designory in Los Angeles to study makeup artistry. After completion, I came back home to Alabama to attain an esthetics license and my associates degree at Northeast Alabama Community College. After graduating, I started working at Serenity Salon in Boaz. I was offering facials, lash lifts, brow waxing, and makeup services. I worked there for a little over 2 years and I loved my clientele and my salon family. However, I always knew I wanted to live in a bigger city for more opportunities for growth.
So I packed my bags and moved to Nashville! I am now working at One10 in Berry Hill. I do still offer the same services with just a little upgrade. I also offer spray tanning and I am a bridal makeup artist with the team.
I have been very blessed with amazing opportunities and loving my new life in Nashville.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t always a smooth road. I moved without knowing anyone so it was hard being away from my family and friends. Driving back home is just a few hours so I try to visit twice a month. My family and friends also love to come over to visit which is nice.

It was also a struggle having to rebuild my clientele. Social media can only help so much especially when most of my followers are from Alabama. I did get a job at Sephora to help me meet people and advertise myself. It opened lots of doors for me. I met some of my bridal clients there, I’ve met an amazing makeup artist and assisted her with the CMA awards and her bridal clients. I’ve also gained clients for my salon services. It was definitely a jumpstart I needed for my career.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I offer a variety services. I offer customizable facials and treatments, lash lifts, brow laminations, spray tanning, and makeup services for any event and beauty lessons.

I specialize in bridal makeup and lash lifts. Those are my top services, but I love all the work I do.

I’m most proud of following my dreams. I moved from a small town to a bigger city so I could grow and learn in my career. I’m doing exactly what I dreamed of and I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for me.

I would say my passion and communication skills set me apart from others. A big part of my job is listening to my clients and what they’re wanting. For example, a bride always has a vision on how they’re going to look for their big day. My job is to understand what she envisions and make it happen. The consultation is the most important part for me with any service.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I moved to California at 20 years old by myself, not knowing anyone, just to go to my dream makeup school.
I moved to Nashville not knowing anyone either, on my own as well. These are risks I took in order to grow, but I had no idea how things were going to turn out. I just had a lot of faith that things would work out for me.

I think everyone should take risks. Most people don’t because they’re scared of failing. You never know until you try. How can you grow or change your life if you don’t do anything different?
