Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Cormier.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been singing for as long as I can remember! I grew up in Pinehurst, NC but always knew I belonged in a bigger city. I went to college in NYC at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and studied Musical Theatre. As a kid, I always wanted to be on Broadway. During my time at AMDA, I realized that I didn’t really want to act. I had always written songs and played guitar so after school, I decided that I wanted to move to Nashville to be a singer/songwriter. Before moving here, I recorded and released my first EP, Casino Sessions (2016).
Once I got here, I played the writer’s rounds and did the co-writes and all of the things you’re supposed to do when you move to Nashville. I released my first full-length album Fire & Ice in 2018. It features a guitar solo by Peter Frampton on the single “Can’t Quit You” which is a crazy story in and of itself! But I will always be grateful that he wanted to be a part of this project.
I have released a few singles over the years including an original Christmas song “Christmas Is You” that was featured on Spotify’s Christmas Hits Playlist and gained over 3 million streams.
In August of this year, I released my newest EP Réflexion. All of the songs were written in 2020 and the songs are about all of my emotions and experiences of that year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. I have definitely had some incredible opportunities; Peter Frampton, I have performed with Vince Gill and opened for Trace Adkins. But those opportunities come and go. Music is not always a consistent thing. I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else. I just have to keep pushing and keep touring and getting myself out there.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter! I consider my music to be folk/pop. I’ve released several albums and a few singles over the last few years. I’d say I am most proud of the accomplishments of my career so far. Getting to perform with Vince Gill was an amazing experience and having a song reach over 3 million streams was crazy! What set me apart I think is my storytelling. My songs always come from a personal place but I try to make them relatable at the same time.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
The first one that popped into my head was turning a cardboard box into a sled. It didn’t snow a lot back home but one year it snowed on Christmas! I was maybe three or four years old. After opening presents my dad and I went outside where he tied a rope to the cardboard box and we went onto the golf course (growing up in Pinehurst, your backyard was almost always a golf course) and he pulled me around in the snow until the box completely fell apart. My mom film it and I used that footage in a music video last year.
