Daily Inspiration: Meet Davis Mallory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davis Mallory.

Hi Davis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Atlanta, GA to a musical family. My uncle John Mallory is a songwriter who penned music sung by Wynonna Judd & Sixpence None the Richer. My uncle Chaz managed Amy Grant and manages today Christian artist Michael W. Smith. I sang in my church choir during my childhood and into my high school years before going off to college at Stetson University in Central Florida where I was Pre-Medicine and graduated with a Business Major.

During college, I was cast on MTV’s pioneering reality TV show The Real World and participated in the 18th season in Denver, CO. I also took part in 3 MTV Challenges (The Inferno 3 in South Africa, Dual 2 in New Zealand and Rivals 1 in Costa Rica) before retiring from that part of my life. I love music and wanted to work in the field so I started writing a music column for an MTV owned website while interning as a booking agent. I landed a dream job at a record label in New York City – Astralwerks – home to superstars David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Kylie Minogue – and during this moment in my life after attending many DJ sets, I finally trained to DJ at Dubspot School of Electronic Music. My early DJ jobs were all quite different – I performed at the legendary nightclub Pacha, a grand opening for a frozen yogurt store, in store at Bloomingdales, on Fire Island for NYC Mayoral candidate Christine Quinn, and held a weekly residency at a hotel venue. In 2013, I left New York and moved to Nashville, TN to pursue songwriting as I grew more interested in creating music. When I got to Nashville, I interned for an established wedding DJ who trained me on how to perfectly perform weddings. I have since DJed so many events and they have taken me around the world – Utah, Los Angeles, Las Vegas Hawaii, Kentucky, Denver, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Mexico, Amsterdam, Prague, Sweden and Israel.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
DJing Weddings can have some challenges – most often when brides/grooms don’t hire a wedding planner. I like to help my clients plan the event by creating a document I call The Soundtrack to your Wedding (or Party) and provide them with a space to select all their special songs, create a timeline for the event and and any must play songs. I am happy to serve the role as emcee/planner when needed and I also offer other services – such as lighting design (uplights/dance lighting and personalized monogrammed lights), photo booths, video/photo slideshows with editing, and karaoke services.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from being a DJ – I am an accomplished singer-songwriter/ recording artist with music on a variety of labels.
I have made a name for myself as a featured vocalist for DJs internationally with renowned acts Retrovision, Going Deeper, John Dahlback, Landis, DJs from Mars, to list a few, and music signed to record labels including Warner Denmark, Hardwell’s label Revealed, Arman Van Buuren’s label Armada, Cedric Gervais’ label Delecta + Don Dialbo’s label Hexagon. My music has been supported by some of the industry’s biggest DJs including Tiesto, Morgan Page, Don Diablo and been featured on TV/Movies including MTV’s War of the Worlds, Hulu’s Good Trouble, & Snapchat original series Growing up is a Drag. Recognized on a national level, I have been featured in Billboard, Perez Hilton, Huffpost, Us Weekly, People. My music can be found at www.linktr.ee/DavisMallory and www.Fanlink.to/DavisMallory

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have been blessed with several great DJ mentors in Nashville who have trained me along the way – I also love to mentor others and have taught several people how to DJ who are now actively working in the field – I offer DJ courses in Nashville which you can book on my website www.DjDavisDoes.com. The DJ commmunity is a great place with many great talented people and I love to befriend others as there is always a chance I’m double booked and can share the work with a friend.
