Daily Inspiration: Meet Devanshi Patel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devanshi Patel

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I learned how to use henna cones as a kid in india. My mom used to make them for me and i used to practice on my friend’s hands.
After moving to America I did henna for my friends and family for their special events for free.
During covid I had a son and i had quit my job to be with him. And when things opened up 2 of my friends asked me to do their bridal henna. I was not doing it professionally then but they had seen my art work and they trusted me with their special day.
From there I decided to start doing it professionally and see how it goes. To my surprise it picked up really good and i actually started loving it.
I decided to do it full time professionally as business and never looked back.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Start was accidental as I mentioned but once I decided to go for it, it was a learning process as i had no knowledge about marketing and business. It wasn’t just about my art anymore i need to learn everything else related to it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional henna artist. I specialize in bridal henna but i also do events friends family, groups for parties like birthdays, graduation etc. I’m proud of myself for believing in me leaving everything i know behind and starting something completely new.
What sets me apart is i create my own designs. I talk to my brides to understand what they like what they don’t like what is their stories and be able to put all of it together in a intricate cohesive henna designs. I can do traditional and modern and combine both as well.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think birth of my son was good luck for me. I would have never left my old job if it wasnt for him. My friends trusting me was good luck.
