Daily Inspiration: Meet Dimestate Don

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dimestate Don.

Hi Dimestate, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am from Nashville, TN. Out north, raised me, Madison broke me in. I’m a big church kid; my dad was a musician and worship leader in his own right, prompting me to always be involved in choir. I was 14 when I recorded my first demo. It wasn’t good, but it had such positive feedback. I had to keep trying to get better. I did just that. I lost my dad at 17 before graduating high school. His impact on me is beyond this plane now that I’m older to understand. I took a swing at music again. I had established my brand, name, and intention. ‘DIMESTATE,’ the product of Tennessee. In 2023, I debuted with my album ‘Group Therapy,’ produced by Jared Hall and Alvin Malone, love you boys. This album tackled my grief, my mishandled responsibilities, toxic relationships, the negatives and positives of it. The rest is history in the making.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle would be the internal ones. Confidence, poise, determination.. all things I work to maintain daily. They show up in everything you do. Creating, distributing, promoting, there were years I felt undeserving of all the praise, ears and attention I received. It’s that inner saboteur Mother Ru describes; Don’t let them win.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a graphic designer, and music producer. I’ve been doing both since i was 14 years old. I have released art continuously since then, becoming popular locally for grungy, edgy, goth like artwork cover arts. My most proud artwork was a memorial piece for Lil Ske (Lil Queze). We had things in the works for a release of his’ but unfortunately things never came to pass. So in light of his passing I took our draft and honored him. It was bittersweet seeing the artwork blowup on different mediums. Same with my music too. Its beautiful seeing people interact with my music, relate to it, and correlate it to their own experiences. Just proud to be able to have these outputs.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Discernment. This industry will lead you to cross paths, collaborate, and learn with many different people with many backgrounds, many different situations, through this I’ve found that despite what your objective is if you have good discernment you will find navigating easier. There’s no one way success looks or is attained just have clear judgement.
