Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Jevity.
Hi DJ Jevity, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
DJ Jevity started in 2001 in Chicago studying the art of DJing. After 2004 I moved to Dubuque Iowa and started DJing after college. Worked as a DJ for many years in Iowa. 2015 I got a message from Kane Brown stating we were brothers and all my siblings were looking for me.
We became close and bonded over our love of music, sports, and video games. He said if he ever made it big he would take me on tour with him and we finally made it happen in 2021 after the pandemic. I moved out to Nashville and have been getting acquainted with the DJ world out here and meeting all the Nashville DJs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Struggles with DJing happen everywhere. In Iowa, it was hard to show people what real DJing was about and how it works in the big cities. Playing dance music and popular remixes vs. trying not to be a human jukebox, was my struggle in Iowa.
Now in Nashville, there are a lot of DJs out here as well and not many spots to play at, so it does become a challenge to get a spot in some places. Everything takes time though. So I’m grateful to be here. I’m happy that I’ve made the friends I have here in Nashville.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I am a Turntablist DJ. I also produce some music, rap, and sing a little bit. My DJ style is named after my DJ persona. So longevity is what my DJ name is based on, meaning I like to mix music and keep it as a continuous mix of music and have it flow together. Transitions and blends are really my favorites especially if they work really well together!
I’m most proud of my journey, it’s been a long road to get here, and I never thought I would get to DJ anywhere as big as I have now. I thought during the pandemic I was going to retire from DJing and then just another door opened and another one opened. It’s been a blessing.
DJs are in hard party mode all the time and I try to incorporate those mellow-feely songs into my sets, people get tired of fist-pumping all night so it’s nice to give people groovy breaks in between. Using the energy in different types of songs and genres to make a unique experience is definitely what sets me apart.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
The big one is that I and Kane are Brothers. Also, I’ve been DJing and doing music in Iowa before moving to Nashville. Most things people know though.
