Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Harrison.
Hi Drew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Started in North Carolina in 2011, and spent a lot of my early days in Wilmington at Nutt St. Comedy Room, which is now Dead Crow Comedy Room. I kept working my way up the ranks and won the local contest ‘Port City’s Top Comic’ in 2016. I started traveling the Southeast and knew I wanted to move somewhere that was easier to travel to and from and had more opportunities. My wife, our dog Sam, and I moved to Nashville in 2019.
It was going to be 2018 but because of some hurricane damage to our apartment, we had to stay another year. But after establishing myself in Nashville, I was ready to record my debut album and knew I needed to go home to Dead Crow to do it. Project-Nerd took care of the video production and I am set to release an album/special ‘Based on a Drew Story’ on Aug. 26th.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, not at all. Comedy is crazy. A lot of rough days, a lot of ‘Nos’ or ‘you’re not what we’re looking for but every now and then you get a win and you celebrate it and plan the next moves.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve really been proud of my increased online presence. I’ve had some success on TikTok and Facebook. I’ve had the privilege of doing some sketches with some other very talented Nashville comics that have had some traction online.
And I’m really really really proud of this album. This is the first 10+ years of my stand-up career and I get to put it all out there and start over, it’s awesome and terrifying at the same time.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was the quiet kid growing up. I made my family and very close friends laugh, but when I started to stand up, I caught a lot of people off guard. They didn’t expect it from me.
