Today we’d like to introduce you to Goldy Locks.
Goldy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career as a child model at 3 wearing diapers in commercials.
I continued in modeling, then dance. I was too distracted to learn my choreography so they moved me into singing at the recitals. That led to recording and then a deal. I’ve worked with many of the Minneapolis Sound royalty starting up. Andre Cymone to Jesse Johnson St. Paul Peterson to Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis all the way to Prince.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were no social media when I had my record deals. They weren’t even cell phones LOL. There was no safe place to go you just had to take it and figure it out on your own. When I started out modeling many photographers were pedophiles and if you said anything you wouldn’t work or get jobs. So you had to figure out the ways around things. Many times I took matters into my own hands including blackmailing a lighting engineer who was having relations with an underage orphan in the play Annie. I knew right from wrong, I knew how to follow my gut instinct and I knew how to protect myself. My father was a parole officer and I learned from the womb how to be aware of my surroundings and what to do.
Later in my life, I entered into a business deal with a famous recording studio in Hollywood California called Cherokee studios. Some of the greatest rock Legends in musical history were recorded there. I let them some money and they never paid it back and it rolled over into hundreds of thousands of dollars of interest. That led me to bankruptcy and losing everything that I had. At the same time, I lost my wrestling tv contract, a record deal, and a publishing deal and fell flat on my face. Losing everything was the best thing that could have ever happened to me because it teaches you to appreciate what you had and how to get some grit and resilience to gain it back.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What separates me from other musicians is that I’m an entertainer. Having been in professional wrestling for a few decades now, it teaches you how to make it about telling a story and the audience. If you’re doing it correctly I think they are the true stars. Our band is different than others because we haul ass and work incredibly hard without expecting anything in return. The only thing we compete with is time and ourselves. We have a really interactive show with my bandmates Rod Saylor and Serge Droban. We spent a lot of time on our appearance our vibe and our look and hone in our craft making those who come a part of the whole experience. I think that really sets us apart. Another difference between me and our group is that we live an extremely healthy lifestyle and try our best to encourage and inspire others to follow suit.
Instead of complaining about being starving artists, we have other opportunities attached to our musical careers which allow us to make income shining a light on being healthy. We also have an accessory line and some pretty incredible merch that’s branded to each individual member as well as things people who don’t even follow our band would want to order. We spent a lot of our time also shining a light on causes such as domestic violence prevention, suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and cancer prevention awareness. All tying into that healthy lifestyle. www.ICANcer.Life is a movement where local businesses support a pack of “I CAN” shirts and we deliver them to hospitals where patients receiving treatment can be reminded that “They Can.” We perform a 45-minute set in the parking lot of the hospital and stream it live so that they can either listen and watch it on their phones or come to the window of the hospital rooms and have CS performing for them. We love doing everything that we can provide a really positive experience for everyone. Our merch and happy products can be found at www.TheFactoryByGoldyLocks.com just to show you we are SERIOUS about branding and our inspirational items!
What’s next?
The plans are to continue with the hit TLC show, “Call In The Cheapskates” where more visibility for myself and the band will lead to more opportunities with the platforms we love and support the most. We love to be going into as many hospitals as we can or performing in treatment center parking lots putting a little more sunlight in someone’s day.
We will continue to make more videos with a purpose behind them and a message. We have a new bass player Wandley Bala who we are waiting to have come over from Brazil to join us with a brand new even more interactive live show with a custom-built stage with a different niche. We are so excited.
