Daily Inspiration: Meet Hannah Day

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Day.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina – started dancing when I was six and eventually got involved in community theatre as well as voice lessons and piano lessons. I went to college at Western Carolina University where I got a degree in Acting with a concentration in voice and dance. While in school I taught dance/theatre at The North Georgia Studio of the Performing Arts. Upon graduating, I moved to Brooklyn where I performed professionally around the city as well as played Lucy on the National Tour of A Christmas Carol. Music has always been my first love and once I hit my two-year mark in the city – Nashville began popping up in my life in the most unexplainable ways. I knew I had to move. Once here, I threw myself into songwriting and performing in writers’ rounds. Now, I’m working on releasing my debut EP! The first single “Boys Don’t Know” will be released in 2022!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Life will forever throw you obstacles. The only way to overcome them is to learn from them, move forward, and remain receptive. I definitely faced a lot of challenges while living in New York – though I’m so thankful for my time there. I grew up A LOT and I certainly fell on my face more times than I can count. But without it, I wouldn’t be half as appreciative of the life I have today. You have to love the journey to enjoy the destination at its fullest. Despite the physical obstacles like working three jobs to make ends meet – the biggest and most crippling of them all were the ones within myself. I didn’t start writing music until I was 23 because my entire life, I had conditioned myself to believe I was never capable of songwriting or being a full-time musician. So, when the opportunity to move to Nashville presented itself, I had to work myself out of severe imposter syndrome, and let me tell you…I was completely paralyzed. It took a lot of unlearning, taking plunges and saying f you to failure, and embracing temporary mediocracy as a learning curve.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. I always explain my music as “if Alabama Shakes, Lake Street Dive, and Lana Del Ray had a love child” – that’s me! I would say if there’s anything I’m known for it’s my baby blue hollow body electric guitar. Seriously though, it’s become a staple. I’m most proud of the new music I have coming out in 2022!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a kid I was always such a hands-on learner which I think, is why I fell in love with music so hard and fast. I also had a bit of a poetry obsession. I was always writing or singing….no one else in my family is a creative, so I was definitely the “black sheep” so to speak. BUT with that said, even as a kid, I was never afraid to make my own path or do my own thing.
