Daily Inspiration: Meet Hunter Dorton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Dorton.

Hi Hunter, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our story began out of a loss. My wife’s mother was battling cancer and when she unfortunately passed away we took a serious look at our health and wellness and what we could do to be as healthy as possible. We started working on growing our own food and being more aware of toxic ingredients in our everyday lives. Over time this lead to working on an organic produce farm where we learned the skills of growing mushrooms as well as regular produce. Once we got into growing mushrooms and realizing their amazing health benefits we have continued to provide those to the local community for over 5 years now. In 2025 we grew over 4000 pounds of Mushrooms and were able to provide those to the local community, all year long. We are truly blessed to be able to have our own business and be able to provide high quality products, with health and wellness always at the forefront of what we do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If you have a smooth road along the way, you probably aren’t doing something right! We have had our fair share of trials while getting our business going. Since we grow food that is perishable, a lot of material in the beginning of the business was composted. We didn’t have a way to store our products effectively, we’ve had power outages, fogger malfunctions, pests and bugs, and storms. We got kicked off of our point of sale payment processing because of Hemp and we had to build a whole new website. Overall though, even though it’s been a test at times, we count it all joy and every failure is an opportunity to grow and learn from and we just pick our selves up, Thank God for another opportunity to do better, and keep pressing forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are best known for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. We specialize in growing hard wood loving varieties that have a higher medicinal value than what you can find in the grocery store. We sell them fresh, dehydrated, in Tinctures, powders and seasonings, and we make some unique products out of mushrooms too. We offer grow kits, education, identification, and lots of Love along the way. We care deeply about people and being of service to them. We give back as much as we can and we love being able to help people feel more like the best version of themselves. It’s an honor to get to serve the greater middle TN area.

How do you think about luck?
As believers in God we tend to view Luck a little differently. When we are upholding good and righteous standards within our business and how we conduct ourselves we seem to find ourselves being blessed over and over again with new customers, opportunities, and even ideas on new products to make. Even a set back, or failure, is seen as an opportunity to grow and learn from. We see a FAIL as an acronym for First Attempt In Learning and we just keep trusting the process and pressing forward one day at a time. We keep our faith like the birds do, who wake up everyday with no guarantee for food, but they get out there anyways and just work at finding it. We wake up everyday feeling blessed, and thankful for the opportunity we have to serve the community we live in.
