Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Kirk.
Hi Isaac, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a native Nashvillian and the second oldest of eight children. So I’ve always been hyper intuitive about people and situations, which lent itself to me developing a keen sense of humor to divert attention away from disaster. A sense of humor that landed me my first acting role at the age of 6 in the children’s VHS series “Barry Bears Very Best Bedtime Bible Stories”.
Fast forward to me being expelled from college which leads to me working at Mellow Mushroom which leads to me volunteering with “The Muse Of Fire Project” an after-school theatre arts program for kids. This was my reintroduction to the performing arts and I fell in love. I felt that electric sizzle of all my synapses firing and I knew this was my thing. Shortly thereafter, I gained my first bit of onscreen notoriety for an improvised line of dialogue in an Organic Valley YouTube PSA titled “Save The Bros” which landed me my first agent.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth? I’m a husband, father, actor, and community advocate, so no, not at all. But perseverance breeds perspective. This is why I place so much value on faith and being an active part of my community. I work a lot with at-risk youth and make volunteering a priority. It’s very easy to lose sight of the things that hold intrinsic value in an industry in which success is a very fluid me oriented concept.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a curious person and what sets me apart is I’ve always embraced the idea of being dangerous. Acting gave those creative curious energies focus. As an actor, I’ve been on TV shows like TELL ME A STORY on CBS and CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST on FOX.
Until recently, I’ve been an auxiliary guy, black best friend, or the comedic relief. Bit player stuff. However, in the midst of the pandemic, while the world was sequestered away, Allison Summers & Luke Watson, two of Nashville’s premier creatives reached out to me and we started a production company. We’ve already shot the pilot and are currently pitching the series to networks. But, I think I’m probably best known right now for my contributions to Nashville’s improv community.
My love of improv stems from the little joys in life that you don’t necessarily realize exist until you lose them, Hence my love of Third Coast Comedy Club. The team over there has created & cultivated a space for those magical moments and feelings to be reintroduced to the world. While simultaneously letting creatives put out content that is bold, unfiltered, and critical of the status quo. Hence my involvement in the equity and cultural issues in Nashville. I believe the arts are a place for hard conversations to be held and my creative base in Nashville is Third Coast Comedy Club.
